NJ Collector Insurance opinions
Can someone tell me how to go about getting some sort of "limited use" insurance/registration for my car?
I'm going to be picking up a DD, and need to figure out how to insure the camaro. Going by NJMV the applications says I need to produce documentation saying my car is limited production blah blah blah...dont know if I can do that, so I'm looking for other, LEGAL, options. |

yea, unfortunately if you didn't have collector registration before september '07 you're pretty much SOL.
|
give hagerty a call. they will cover any car from antique through new that is limited use. they don't really have any sort of mileage restriction, jsut terms of use, and they will even insure your project car if you decide to take the car apart for a major overhaul.

Do you need collector tags on the car or can I register the car like I have it now and just apply the insurance to it? |
Hagerty told me they would not insure the 99 when I got it. I was thinking about driving it over the summer.
The best thing to do is get on the phone and call the ins. companies. |
No special tags needed. All you need is to fill out the app and send in with pictures of the car.

is there any progress with this club giving support for the registration process? at least it couldnt hurt to try.

i have my 88 under limited use with state farm so its on the regular insurance policy with the rest of the familys cars.
i also have an agreed upon value with them if the car is totaled. i had to show them similar cars for sale to prove the value, show them recipts that i have for work done and bring it to them to have pictures taken and so they can look at the car |

You got agreed value with state farm? I've had more then 1 SF rep tell me they do not offer true agreed value. I'd love to see the endorsement language, I wonder if you really have stated value.
|
Try American Hobbyist at www.americanhobbyist.com I have agreed upon value and there is no set restriction on mileage - just language that car is used for recreational driving.

I use Hagerty for my 69...I've used them since 1994 and never had a problem. My step dad switched his 97 Jag to them a few years back...so I know they insure newer cars.

I used to think my insurance was too high until I wrecked a relatively new car and got damn near the actual value of it. Then a buddy of mine wrecked a car that was close to the same value of mine but had to fight and ***** to get even close to what I got- he had a company that had cheaper rates and supposedly "great service" and it ended up burning him. No offense to anybody on here but, before you sign on with a company make sure to check with people that have filed claims. That way you can have an idea of how you will be treated when you need them. |

This topic has been beaten to death at old cars sites. Like camaros.net and chevelles.net. Do some research ther as well.
Billy, I have heard good feedback on Hagerty claims processing. |
Sure its easy to get the insurance, but what bout the Triangle Inspection which really counts on the street for some of us late model people...
