Weight reduction on Exploder

Anyone have experience in taking out the 3rd row or middle row of seats on an 05 or newer explorer? Or taking out/putting back the spare tire?

DaSkinnyGuy 11-12-2007 07:23 PM

Hey you told me no weight reduction so how fair is that. And the spare lowers down in the rear should save u 60lbs and the rear seat maybe just be a couple bolts or have someway of releasing with a latch for quick removal.

Anti_Rice_Guy 11-12-2007 07:38 PM

Big help on specifics there chief. And you said you can't come, so I figured I need all the help I can get against the Camaro and altima.

procamaroz28 11-12-2007 08:37 PM

spare tire ... yes you cant take out 3rd row tho

Anti_Rice_Guy 11-12-2007 08:40 PM

It was also a how question. Can't take out 3rd row?!

You might not be able to without a bunch of work. When I talked to you last week I didn't realize that the 3rd row seats fold flat into the floor. Those types of seats don't generally have any sort of "quick remove" option.

You might wanna search/ask around here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...play.php?f=110

Less weight = more speed/better acceleration

Yes I'm racing it on Friday.

Mine is V6 AWD automatic so I can't really change the driving style, only weight/aero.

why bother?

Why not?

GP99GT 11-13-2007 07:30 PM

its a 4wd truck with no performance aspirations at all...i could see if it was a typhoon/syclone or a lightning or an SRT Ram or a TBSS...but....its a v6 exploder

Anti_Rice_Guy 11-13-2007 07:33 PM

It's called for fun haha. Plus I got called out after people learned how amazingly fast it was. It's cheap, fun entertainment for a whole night

Lemme know how u make out with the weight reduction and your times!

Anti_Rice_Guy 11-19-2007 01:52 PM

As Island closed, I did not do weight reduction, and learned that my pass and middle row of seats are held on by roughly 5000 bolts. I didn't bother checking the 3rd row.

An Explorer has the aerodynamics of a 4x8 sheet of plywood. Your best bet, as you know, is to ditch stuff like the seats, spare, probably run 1/3 of a tank of gas, etc.

Anti_Rice_Guy 11-19-2007 06:23 PM

Yeah I ran ~1/4 last time I raced. I'm gonna try and ditch the seats next time, but they're attached by, as I said, 5000 bolts, sooo it won't be an easy task. Spare looked to be pretty simple to take off and on.

air up all four tires to 45-50psi to make them roll easier too.

good luck with it

YEah I had planned on doing that, but since the closed....it'll have to wait until next year.
