How Do You Like This Paint Scheme?

Here's the scoop. My '88 SS is all white, and the paint is in nice shape. However, this is my FOURTH white Monte SS, so I'm thinking I'd like to do something a little different. I was playing around with GIMP photo editor, and came up with this scheme. Whatcha think?

I think it looks fine in all white to be completely honest. The two tone brings it to far back into the 80's. I kinda like the idea of the red stripe though somehow if you could work that back in it could look alright.

Ever consider painting your centers of your wheels and leaving the lips polished?

NJSPEEDER 12-05-2007 10:27 PM

i like the white over gray look. i would just consider different colors for the seperation stripe. i think something a bit darker would be better. not sure if black or maybe even a burgandy that matches the interior woudl be better. just something darker than bright red.

good look. when are you thinking of painting it?

Fast92RS 12-06-2007 07:42 AM

I like it. It does bring back to the 80's when some z28's had two tone piant jobs.

procamaroz28 12-06-2007 09:04 AM

too 80's + not a fan of 2 tone

Untamed 12-06-2007 10:17 AM

As something different than all white, I like it. I agree with Tim though, if you can incorporate the interior color into the exterior scheme, that would look sharp.

bubba428 12-06-2007 10:55 AM

black over silver and a HUGE #3 lol

Anti_Rice_Guy 12-06-2007 11:06 AM

Doesn't look horrendous but doesn't look amazing either. It's a clean, simple good looking 80s style paint.

maroman88 12-06-2007 11:57 AM

im guna say no, i like white (duh) and i like a white and black theme.

SteveR 12-06-2007 12:06 PM

I like the idea, but that gray there looks too flat. To spice it up and set it apart, think about maybe metallic charcoal on the bottom and metallic pearl for the white with a cherry red stripe.

Knipps 12-06-2007 12:50 PM

i'd go with a darker color on bottom with a thicker stripe in a deep red

DaSkinnyGuy 12-06-2007 01:18 PM

I would do white on top, bottom black, and have a silver stripe to split the two tone. Just not digging the gray and white.

I think if you read ALL the threads(say if there were 127), you are going to get 126 DIFFERENT ideas. It's what each person would do with YOUR car. Go with you think REALLY PLEASES YOU, and to hell with all the other suggestions!

The Fixer 12-06-2007 10:11 PM

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm kinda set on the dark gray; the photo editor won't do a metallic, but I'm thinking it'll be the dark metallic gray you see on the newer Bimmers or Mustangs. I also made two more 'chops, one with a burgundy stripe and one with black stripe. Tough call here; the burgundy ties into the interior color, the black matches all the black trim on the outside. How do you like these?

Oh Tim, as far as when I'm gonna get it painted, I'd have to see if my painter friend *coughTedcough* can do it. :)

Fords 'Alloy' and 'Dark Shadow Gray Metallic' are ones to look at too. Alloy is a Mustang color, and DSGM is an F-250/350/450 color. Both look really good in the sunlight. If you want to see them, just stop by a Ford dealership and find a Mustang and a truck that have them

One of my students has a new Mustang in that Alloy color. I'll have to drive by it when I leave today and see if it's too dark for my taste.

WildBillyT 12-07-2007 11:14 AM

Love it. Especially the first one. Yes, it's 80s, but it's an 80s car.

I think the Burgundy looks the best. It has a factory stripe look to it. You might consider also doing the Burgundy stripe over the fender lips. I had a 1966 White Monte Carlo SS, and it had the worst case of factory paint(ORANGE PEEL) I have ever had on a new car. GM paint back then was the worse crap, some areas were so thin, that if you rubbed compound on it for about 3 seconds, the primer came thru. Also put in a Comp Cam, Edlebrock maniford and Headers, Art Carr Trans Kit with a torque converter and other small goodies. Stock it ran a 15.75, and with over $3,500 in goodies, it ran a 15.05. Should have pulled the 305 out from the get go, and swap in a 350. Sold the car in 1988 and bought a 1989 Turbo T/A that with some TUNING, was running 12.18 @ 115 mph. Miss THAT car!

NJSPEEDER 12-07-2007 06:30 PM

both look good, tough call. i think matching the stripe to the interior will look better overall since your car isn't tinted. if you had tint, the black would be better.

Alloy is the darker of the two. The DSGM is a bit lighter.

The Fixer 12-08-2007 10:09 AM

I'll have to check 'em out in person. I saw the Alloy on my student's 'Stang yesterday, and also on a new Taurus at the liquor store. It looks good, but both cars were dirty with the stupid salt on the roads, and it was cloudy. I need to see it on a clean car on a sunny day!

88BluBird 12-08-2007 10:56 AM

My opinion is it looks ok.. it reminds me of the Olds 442 of the mid 80`s tho..if you took the red line away it would be the same almost to the tee...just my:2cents:
