No More Camaro : (

I was driving my 2001 camaro Z28 on rt 55 on Wed about a month and a half ago to class when the unthinkable happened. My front right tire blew out. It sent me spinning out of control and i was thrown off the road into a bunch of trees. At the time I didn't know that i had a blowout and so I told the cops I was just driving and changing lanes when the next thing i knew I lost control and was thrown off the road. Lucky me the gracious cop decided to bless me with 9 POINTS! I was furious. I went to court and finally got the points dismissed. I had my car taken to a repair shop and it was considered totalled. Now I am driving a 1988 Honda POS civic. I am crushed.:cry::cry:

The worst part is he wasn't being an idiot. RIP Camaro, and you're lucky to escape alive/relatively unharmed dude! Speaks to the safety of these cars

That sucks! Why did the tire blowout? Was it a defective wheel problem or was it just something you might have run over? The tires look pretty new.

:werd:

rim looks like it broke. you might want to try and find out if there is a problem with those rims breaking, might be able to get some money out of it.

glad you're okay. what happened to the car afterwards? did you sell it?

edpontiac91 12-17-2007 12:41 PM

By the looks of those pictures, you went for a REALLY WILD RIDE. I know the car took the worst of it, but it looks like those small trees helped to absorb some of the impact that a solid object would not have given. Glad your OK!

camaro2you 12-17-2007 04:15 PM

BonzoHansen 12-17-2007 05:48 PM

Holy crap. Glad you're ok, that is most important.

Rims don't just break. I'm sure the tire probably had damage you might not have even known about. A nail, sidewall damage from a bad pothole, etc.

ap2000z28 12-17-2007 06:39 PM

He just had the rims and tires put on a few weeks before the accident. Matt you were on 55 right going to camden? This happened when they were repaving the road and the left lane was higher then the right lane. Maybe you switched lanes and that caused the tire to come off of the rim? What happened with the car? Did you get any money for it or from insurance?

Blacdout96 12-17-2007 09:16 PM

Holy crap dude, man F bodies are quite safe cars, glad to see your ok compared to what the crash looks like.

Ah but they can and I've seen it first hand.

Rafterman 12-17-2007 09:50 PM

That made my eyes tear. Overzealous cop can't see you just lost the love of your life...

I have too, but not in that area (I’m looking at the break in the rim itself that runs parallel with the rim lip/drop center – we could be looking at different things). Usually cracks develop around the hub, or spokes in poorly designed wheels (only saw that once). And in hub damage cases it is often due to failure to re-torque lugs on new aluminum wheels – an absolute must. I am speaking about non-impact injury.

Now on heavy impact, especially with short sidewall tires, I’ve seen large chunks torn out of rims. But that was secondary damage cause by impact, not the other way around. That is the downside of short tire sidewalls; even one good pothole can destroy the inside of the tire, bend and even break a rim. Damage to the inside sidewall of a tire may not manifest itself until many miles later. In most cases a bubble grows in the sidewall. But it can just let loose w/o warning. Poorly performed tire repairs can do the same thing.
