What the heck is this thing on my moms 97 blazer?
97 blazer, 4.3 vortech v6. On the throttlebody blade, riveted to it, looks like some kind of plastic wedge shaped restrictor.. I would think that its blocking so much airflow! can i remove it w/o affecting how it runs? i would have to fill in the holes where the rivets used to be. at idle with the tb blade closed, its not in the way but anytime the tb blade is open, it gets in the way.
i outlined it in red http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/d...riv/WTFGM2.jpg |
I would take it out....doesn't look necessary
|
If it's running OK, then LEAVE IT ALONE. Everything that is put on there is either for emissions or driveablity. Taking it out might just allow TOO MUCH airflow for certain types of throttle positions, such as WOT. Ask someone at a Chevrolet Dealership before you do something that will screw up the idle or affect gas mileage. Just my :2cents:

yea thats a good point...might make the computer flip out
|
computer won't flip out. we removed it on foff667's 98 S10 and put rivets in the holes. picked up a good bit of throttle response and some power doing it :)

It's your Mom's car, leave it the f alone!
|
this is ron. telling him to leave it alone is like telling a 5year old not to eat the cookie you just handed him. may as well give him advice on how to do the mod right and get it over with. lol

HAHA

humperdink?
i had a 96 S10, vortec, and i believe it had that on the throttle plate also. i wouldnt do it, you might screw something up worse. how do you think the fuel pump is bad.....is it rough starting, especially in the cold? mine did that. i went through several things, including a fuel pressure regulator, before i did the fuel pump itself. |

I never really saw the point to it but it may just be a handicap because of the horrible injection systems which more than likely lean out the front cylinders. Bad design. |
It is there to make the part throttle transition smoother, when you remove it with a stock tune it can develop a part throttle lean stumble in some cases. If it is your mom's ride fix the problem and leave everything else alone.
|
if you dont know what it is just tear it out...nothing bad will happen

sounds like a fuel pump. theyre known for going in these trucks. i bought an airtex pump from a local store, it was only around 200.
