well anything could really do that...not just nitrous...nitrous shouldnt backfire if its done correctly. hell, nitrous isnt even flammable, its an oxidizer

Yes, it is capable of that. Not necessarily the N2O but the extra fuel.

And chances are his insurance company denied his claim...
