c6 tranny

Hey guys I am buying a 1991 rs camaro and it has a 350 motor in it and the tranny is a c6 tranny do I need to get a better tranny or what...

Featherburner 12-26-2007 03:02 PM

Better double check what transmission is in it. I doubt it's a c6 beacuse the c6 is a ford trans.

Kid Racer 12-26-2007 03:12 PM

i tho it was he really wasnt sure about the tranny..the guy he got it off of put a 350 motor in it but he doesnt now what kind of tranny im thinking either a 700r4 or a 350 or a 400 but i dont now .....when i get it i should have in about a week or so...

yeah but i dont know cause the car had a v6 in it.and i dont think that the tranny would line up right to the 350 i dont know..but if it is a stock tranny for a v6 do u think it would be better to get a different tranny.cause i think the gears are diferent.in a v6 tranny then a v8 tranny right...

he's baaack :helmet:

Kid Racer 12-26-2007 04:11 PM

whos back.any way does any one now if a v6 tranny is different from a v8 tranny....

NJSPEEDER 12-26-2007 04:54 PM

the bell housing and torque convertor on the V6 trans is different than the V8. it won't bolt up. V8 transmissions are common enough, grab one from a junk yard and freshen it. the mounts and everything are the same, so that won't be a problem.

I hope you are getting one heck of a deal on it if you (or the current owner) has no clue what transmission is even in the car......

I would follow up on what over mods he did when the motor swap was done before shelling out any cash for the car at all.....

this isn't a red one is it? with a caprice motor?

Kid Racer 12-28-2007 09:54 PM

no its a blue one. in s.c

98tadriver 12-29-2007 06:57 PM

If he says its got a C6 transmission in it, i would seriously consider finding out if its really a 350 in there. to the untrained eye you cant tell what it is. Write the casting number down. its on the driver's side, on the top of the block where the bellhousing bolts up, right behind the cylinder head. bring a friend, a flashlight and something to write with and goodluck!
