Gawd, I can't wait to get on the new job!

After dealing with a lame ass union and cut throat fellow workers for 20 years I had to go out with a bang...
I've been running the OT list off and on in my department for a while now, and at the moment we have more OT than guys to fill it. I have one POS guy who didn't want to work OT for the longest time...every time I'd call him he'd turn it down, and it got to the point where he told me to not even call until he told me he wanted to start working again. OK, cool. So, it worked out that I was trying to let the guys work when they wanted to, and everybody was happy. Well, Mr Azzhole who wasn't working OT decided he wanted to start up again, and since he's jumped back in the ring he has been nothing but critical of the way I run the list. Sure, it was OK when he put in more OT that anyone last week, including a shift of double time. But now he expected to have everything run in his favor. Well, I did my list for the week yesterday, which was prolly the last list I'd be doing, since I'm heading to the Pennsyltucky shop in the next couple of weeks. Well, I called up Mr Azzhole to tell him when he was up, and he proceded to tell me when HE wanted to work. I told him it didn't work that way anymore, and that he had 3 guys senior to him wanting to work the same spots. So, I told him it would fall where it did. Well, I spent close to an hour making calls and setting things up, and everything was set up through Sat. Well, I took today off work because I had a couple of doctors appointments, and around 3 PM I get a call from my lame *** union rep. Mr Official tells me that there were complaints about the way I was running the list [yeah, one azzhole complaining], and that I was no longer running the list. They actually gave the list to the azzhole who was complaining! And he was going to be redoing all the work I busted my *** on yesterday. So, I basically told the union rep to go f' himself with the rest of the union. Then I called up the guy who bitched about the list, and I told him when I come in tomorrow that the list BETTER be on the up and up...I know he is gonna try and work the list to his favor, so he can weasel in more OT for himself. Gawd, I hate people...I've been at his **** for 20 years, and some azzhat with 3 years comes in crying like a bitch, and the union backs him.
Pennsyltucky has never looked so good...

All I have to say is, unions are good for somethings, along with keeping the lazy and fat employed.

Sorry to say I have to agree with ya...I've been in the same union for 22 years, and they haven't done ANYTHING for me but take my monthly dues, and shove it up my *** when I need something. I've always been an equal opp offender...not afraid to tell the union or mgnmt to go pound it...but when ever I had to take care of business I did it myself. We haven't had a working contract in 5 years, and what is the union doing about it? El Zippo...but they don't forget to raise the dues every chance they get. Can't get us the raises we've earned, but will take from us what they don't deserve.

that sucks to hear man. You would think after 20 yrs you would get a little more understanding but it never seems to work that way. Thats pretty amazing that the guy complaining got the list to do so he must be some smooth talker or the people he is talking to are total idiots. I'm guessing its the latter. Well all things happen for a reason in my eyes so I think this just helps you on your way to PA.

Well, I've always been a walking bar room brawl...like I said above, I've told the union to go plug it many times, so I ain't winning any popularity contests with them. But what gets me is how thay took one retard's word over mine or anybody else's in the dept...I could see if the other guys were complaining as well. But they weren't, so there was no democratic system involved. But screw it...I'm working my last couple of OTs this weekend, and for all intents and purposes I'll be in Pennsyltucky by next week. New shop, new start, new 'tude!

Yup, sounds like time for a fresh start! They're driving me crazy at work now but I still feel I owe it to the other people in the company to stay around and try to help them. I can't even imagine dealing with a union.

IBEW Local 102, Paterson NJ right here. a REAL Union. We perform highly technical, dangerous work on a daily basis and the Union ALWAYS backs us up

there are a minority of fat/lazy people, but you cant tell me that there arent fat and lazy non-union workers either.

I agree with you. I just stated what I noticed over the years.

Well Carpenters LU 623/29 here. We bust our ass and like NJ85 said perform dangerous and backbreaking work all the time. On the other hand we have some people that aren't as outgoing or work hard as others but that is true with every job out there.

The difference between lazy/fat union workers vs. lazy fat non union workers is the non-union worker can get fired for not doing their job, while the union worker won't because of some BS excuse.

Lets look at Teachers for example. How many people here have a teacher in the public school system who is nasty, hasn't changed her teaching format in years, still uses the same plans and kids are having problems learning and complain, but because she's tenured they can't fire her.

Last time I checked if i didn't do my job my boss could fire me. Take the writers guild right now, are you kidding me they are complaining about their jobs, they write jokes and scripts. If they said they weren't working I'd go out and find someone else to write jokes. See how much they complain when they have no paychecks coming in.

Your statements are uninformed.
I have personally seen dozens of nonproductive members of our union given the old boot for failure to knowledgably perform their work. And if lets say a union electrician is fired 3 times in 1 year, an investigation is launched and the international office steps in. Its a little more difficult to actually rid the person entirely from our line of work, but it can and does happen.
