Driving the cost-cutting were Tata’s engineers, who in an earlier project questioned whether their trucks really needed all four brake pads or could make do with three. As they built Tata’s new car, for about half the price of the next-cheapest Indian alternative, their guiding philosophy was: Do we really need that?

Suffice to say these things will never hit American shores. Ever.

If they hit anything they will fold up like an empty beer can.

Serisouly, that is a bad thing for that country. Unsafe, no emission control vehicles in a country with pollution issues and a growing thirst for oil. Great.

And you can guarantee that NOTHING is redundantly engineered, so a small failure is a catastropic one. The Indian gov't doesn't give a crap about their citizen's safety, so what do they care?

you guys are missing the underlying point of that vehicle....population control.

explain that one. and if you can find tata crash tests... thats even scarier

bubba428 01-08-2008 11:27 PM

yea...population control seems like a correct deduction. Indians suck at driving...so if they all drive them, only the good drivers will survive. its Darwinism with a modern twist.

qwikz28 01-08-2008 11:33 PM

if a car is that affordable in india, everyone will have it and the streets will be too crowded and polluted to get around. or test its safety

it was a joke. india is wickedly overpopulated, so if it has really poor crash test ratings, more people die and the population lowers.

i still think an unsafe car in ridiculous traffic is safer than a moped. that country needs help

Another fun fact...
Tata is now the new owner of Jag and Land Rover.

I didn't know that went through....I just thought they were the preferred bidder.
