"Knocking" in the rear?
Well, here's my issue. I heard some clunking and knocking in the back, I was due for some shocks anyway, still had the OE's on there. Put the new ones on and I'm still hearing the same clunk. Also when I'm making a gradual turn I can here a "knocking" coming from the back. Like it's a loose wheel or something. I inspected everything back there, the control arms, sway bar links, all the bushings, I can't seem to find anything wrong back there. Anyone have any sort of clue as to what I might have? Did I miss something?

sounds like the panhard bushings are shot....lay under the back and shake the car side to side

there are lots of moving parts back there. I had noises from my shock nut being a little loose, to actually my brake pad making nosies on bumps.
you just have to look under while someone moves the car in difference directions to see if you can narrow it down. |
I would guess that if you have a POSI rear, that the clunking sound might be the clutches in the rear. Usually when making a turn, the clutches are trying to grab more on one side and they chatter. You might want to put in a GM Additive that is made for this. It used to be whale oil, but they have since changed the formula, but it does work.

my rear does the smae thing........and another thing my car does, not to get off topic, is when u turn the wheel far, it locks up and the front end just kinda slides.

Either way, the additive doesn't hurt. I'd put the car on jackstands in neutral and slowly turn each rear wheel by hand. Listen for clunking. Then pull on each wheel and see if there is a lot of play. |
I had a similar sounding clunk, but it was only on the drivers side. I looked at the bracket where the sway bar mounts to the body of the car. That was real loose and once i tightened it up i had no more clunk

I had a clunk/rattle after i did a rear swap in my 98z and it turned out to be the drivers side caliper bracket, somehow the locktite let loose.

i had a clunk, then my rear blew, again lol

hahaha been there |
Well, I fixed the major "clunk." Just a loose nut on the trailing arm. But I still hear that dreaded knock while making a gradual turn...

my rear started making the "clunk clunk clunk clunk" when making a turn...didn't do it it much this week
