1 peice is just that, one peice u gotta remove the crank to replace it, two peice is two peices, usually a rope seal as another name, 2 peice rms is from 86? and back, while one peice is from 87 and newer, i dont remember. i kno my 72 400 sbc is a 2 peice

Slo86Bird 02-23-2008 12:09 AM

is there a power difference or do u need a special trans or what?

cuz i honestly dont know engines, as u can see....

johnjzjz 02-23-2008 07:15 AM

many feel the 2 piece seal is a better deal and the bolt pattern is different for each and flywheels are not interchangeable but complete they are < engine the new is a one piece seal and their were two types of 2 piece a rope as was mentioned 1950s type and a hard plastic type the latter is better - jz

As John said the cranks themselves are different. And you do not have to remove the crank to replace the 1 piece rear main seal. You have to get the trans out of the way and then the seal is inside of a carrier that bolts to the back of the block...you have to drop the oil pan some though.
