this sucks

to start the day, theres alot of snow. my sunroof is broken on my truck and i didnt think and left it open all night so i had 5 inches of snow on the seats. then on top of that, i go t start my car and the starter started ginding so i did the old remedy of a hammer and it didnt help so think the starter needs to be replaced...

if the starter grinds means something else is wrong, the only time u can use a hammer is when its "clicking" cuz of a bad spot and it wont turn

so wat u think is wrong?

starter could be misaligned to the teeth on the flywheel

trashman01 02-24-2008 12:15 PM

start teeth could be 2 deep, 2 shallow or just misalgined, teeth on the starter could be rounded off or they are not traveling out far enough to engage the flywheel. take it out and check the teeth on both the starter and flywheel

:bang: just blow it up.

but i would have to agree with the general consensus of the teeth being mis aligned

if it makes you feel any better, the started went in the jeep last week....just stopped working, no clicking, no battery drain, not a sound. luckily i have a 5sp so i just popped it and got it to the dealer and my warranty covered it.

Slo86Bird 02-24-2008 09:33 PM

its never done this before tho so i dunno how it woulda just randomly become misaligned....
