My plan for Ultimate MPG

Ok so heres my plan for my civic once it gets alittle warmer:

1. Remove all unnessacary weight,(rear seats, spare and jack etc.)
2. Get a high flow filter or CAI
3. Seafoam the whole engine
4. New clutch

Anymore ideas you can think of let me know. The factory mpg rating on the highway for my civic is up to 55 mpg.

Savage_Messiah 02-24-2008 11:32 PM

get the wheel covers that UBG has on his cavy!!

SteveR 02-25-2008 01:21 AM

bio diesel lol

seriously, check out a free flowing exhaust and header, it works on V8s so why not a civic? Oh and a full tune up, plugs, wires, belts, fluids, filters, injector cleaner, etc.

header and exhuast i refuse to do for the simple fact that i hate the way the car sounds and to make it any louder would just irritate me :-( Maybe if it was a V8 :-)

SteveR 02-25-2008 01:29 AM

How about just the header then? It would let the engine breath a little better maybe.

get a vacuum gauge so you can control throttle input better...more vacuum=less air=better mpg

3rdGenLT1 02-25-2008 07:59 AM

hi flow cat or no cat

Absolutely.

I have a boost/vac gauge and I use it for this purpose all the time.

-super concentrated fuel injector cleaner. my buddy gained 1mpg average according to his computer on his VW with this stuff.
-check tire pressure
-if you do alot of highway like i do, any aerodynamic mods will help. lose any unnecessary body stuff (spoiler, roof rack, body kits, etc...)

ps- i like your intake idea. autozone sells a decent one for cheap. my buddy had it and it really woke the car up. also, can we see a pic of the car? maybe if it has skinny tires you can be beast and lose the power steering

alamantia 02-25-2008 12:58 PM

Just drive down hill wherever you go.

ar0ck 02-25-2008 12:59 PM

Pussy Foot it around town.

BigAls87Z28 02-25-2008 01:09 PM

Im gunna try that with my Caprice. Probably wont get 55mpg...probably not even 25..but I am aiming for 20mpg.
20mpg x 22 gallon tank= 440miles per tank.
id like 25mpg...but not getting my hopes up. Current MPG is 16, best ever was on a highway run at 80mph got me 18.

He's got an early 90's caprice with an L05 (350 TBI). Not exactly designed for great mileage.

Have you thrown a tune up on that? You should be getting a lot better than that. My dad had a 92 Road Master with the same engine and he was getting 18/19 around town and 23/24 on the highway.

I bet you didn't have the speedo recalibrated right because 22 mpg with that combo is impossible.

A header on the Honda with an open element air filter will definitely give you better power/efficiency which should increase mpg. Just put a normal Dynomax type muffler on and it won't be obnoxious. I ran a header on my 86 4Runner with the 2.4L 4 cyl and it picked up power and mpg and that was with a full 2.5" exhaust including cat.

Fuel Magnets

JerzyIroc 02-25-2008 09:28 PM

i used to get about 40 out of my honduh. it was also a 93 but it had the SOHC vtec motor and it was a 4 door. I/H/E and a tune up i went up to about 45ish. Like jeff said though put a regular dynomax or something and itll be reasonably quiet. The header and the intake is gonna make a bit louder. once you do that you can get two big bottles of nawz and run mid 11's!!!!
