The Car Gods--

Must like me today, because i pulled the exhaust manifolds off of my 240,000+ mile 3rd gen and broke no bolts off inside the cylinder heads!

I pb blasted wherever i could on the manifolds a few days ago, then today before i worked on it.

all my manifold bolts broke loose with a 3/8 ratchet. too bad getting the headers in was the most god awful thing I've every done

sometimes you have to be a contortionist to get those damn things in. or, you look like you are perfroming major surgery on your car: cherry picker to lift the motor, jack under the motor, jack under the transmission, one guy hanging over the fender, one guy underneath... all of this in order to get a pair of headers in... sometimes i wonder if it's worth it.

I had no problems with the exhaust on the 96 SS but the 00 SS I broke the first manifold stud that connects to the cat. Even with several days worth of PB Blaster. It was seriously rusted to the point there really weren't threads left. And that was with under 40K miles. Exhaust work on any car can be a little nerve racking, espcially if it's your daily driver. That's good to hear you got the manifolds off without damage or breakage.

^ i think since his 3rd gen has alot of miles on it, rust had less chance to form compared to your ss, my sisters firebird needs a exhaust manifold gasket but i aint doing it till emissions tells me too and even then ill just write up a pass for it cuz they are so rusty. might as well do a full exhaust on it. damn $400 76K mile fireturd
