I'm truly sorry that your lack of formal education led to being a brainwashed, paranoid warmonger.

well after being called that yet again i have to say good buy to this site and after my answer to the above statement was erased < saying to me i matter not - being called a warmonger in one post and told to shut up in another is not personal < mine was erased -

i have spent the last few days thinking about this and i thought having 40 years of mechanical background and 3 USA national road racing championships to my credit i had thought i could lend a hand to the younger guys who were in need of real answers not bull was the reason i joined in the first place i guess i was wrong -

the last time was called a warmonger among other things was in 1969 after being hurt in Vietnam a short while into my second tour, getting off at the airport in San Francisco and today after many years of mongering i am a 100% disabled combat veteran who is still service connected just as if i was in the service today because of what had happened to me see picture my current military ID card < this part only re insures i am a warmonger to some

i also expect this post in answer to what and why to ((( be erased ))) so i am taking the liberty of sending it to the few fellows ( pm & e mail ) who had contacted me and i have helped out so as they know if they need me again they can contact me anytime some have been to my shop and some on e mail and some in a hi as it were

i'd say step back from the computer for a week. let it go. and be more open minded. everyone seems to think they are right, and its not worth fighting them. post your thoughts but don't rip someone's apart. be civil. be happy. be proud to OWN A CHEVY!!! and a vietnam vet. that right there is some hardcore sheit.

ar0ck 03-19-2008 07:12 PM

I wouldn't let it get to you man. Your a great value to this site and you shouldn't let a few people ruin it for you like it.

JerzyIroc 03-19-2008 07:23 PM

I gotta say this pisses me off. ill be honest, john i didnt even know you were on this site until now. after reading this post though i looked at the thread that im guessing made you want to no longer be a part of the site. and again it really got me upset. this is why political threads suck. everyone has so many different views and feelings about where our country stands and where its heading. its also one of the most heated topics anyone can possibly have. which is exactly why a topic like that shouldnt be associated in a forum like this. topics such as race, politics, homosexuality, religion arent topics that should be related to a forum that is supposed to be fun and exciting. when i signed up for this forum i signed up to share my excitment and passion for not just cars, but specifically my fbody. but its not just about that. its the culture. its about the friendships that everyone has, or will have in the future that only STARTS because of our similar passion, but continues because of our basic human simularities. what people dont understand sometimes is while this may only be a simple car forum, if you think about it its more. think about all the different backrounds in terms of race, gender, sexual preference, religion, economic status, politic affiliation that everyone represents on this site. Meanwhile, we all can still enjoy our both technological and physical company without any problems. That however seems to get screwed up when topics sch as politics get brought up and people get too out of shape. There is no reason why we cant all have a mature conversation about something like this despite it being such a heated and passionate subject. i dont know, maybe im looking way too into this. maybe im dramatizing this whole thing way too much. but in a way i think even if i am then fine. because no matter what anyone feels, this gentleman has served this country and put his life on the lone to sacrafice our many freedoms. and while he obviously has different views on certain subjects, i think its very unfair to start name calling and putting someone down someone and such. especially when its someone who again has served this troubled, imperfect, yet beautiful country of ours. John, sorry we never interacted at all but i will say dispite our very different political views, thank you for your service and your sacrafice.

79CamaroDiva 03-19-2008 07:34 PM

John, I'm sorry to read this :( I believe that political posts are fine, but should never be turned into name calling, personal attacking threads. As the post above me says, we should all be mature enough to express our own views, yet be able to accept that there are people with different views.

Regardless of what your final decision is, whether to stay or go, I'll see you at the track :)

That is exactly why most forums do not allow them. We were (are?) giving it a chance on here, but you see how it goes. No matter how big and know-it-all people act they never seem to quite know how to have a polite argument.

John, I hate to see you go and wish you would reconsider. You really bring a lot of technical knowledge to the table and you really know your stuff cold.

That said, if you do reconsider I would advise you to just stay out of political threads. Typically that's what I try to do. Sometimes I even type out a reply and never hit send because I just don't want to get involved.

Rich189 03-19-2008 07:45 PM

John I dont know you personally but I really hope you reconsider as well as said above some people just dont know how to express thier opinions in a mature manner. Im with wildbilly i just stay out of political threads for the most part because i know they turn into e- fights. Anyways with that hopfully youll reconsider

bad64chevelle 03-19-2008 08:14 PM

John you are a great source of information and have helped me out a few times while working on things. I would hope you could reconsider this and stay aboard with us. I wish you well on whatever your decision may be.

WayFast84 03-19-2008 08:39 PM

John dont go!! You have offered tons of info to me and everyone else on this site! You will be missed very much.

Also I noticed your last name is Zanetti, you wouldnt be related to Greg Zanetti would you?

BonzoHansen 03-19-2008 08:47 PM

You're always welcome back sir.

Anti_Rice_Guy 03-19-2008 08:56 PM

I don't see why people get so riled up about online stuff. Just take a breather and come back when you feel ready. We will still be here. I for one, read the political threads for amusement but ignore them, despite having strong political views myself. They are useless basically.

Demonicbird00 03-19-2008 09:19 PM

i dont know what post its about or know the story, but personaly thats why i dont get into political or religion topics

i will say thank you for your military service and keeping us free

last thing ill say is... Opinions are like ass-oles everyones got one

hopefully youll stay.

btw what road racing did you do?

thanks
brandon

JSPERFORMANCE 03-19-2008 09:44 PM

Don't go John its nice to have someone else in the club that knows what I am talking about when it comes to doing things the right way as opposed to the cheap way...

rscamaro73 03-19-2008 09:48 PM

John,

I just saw this....and I hardly ever come here....but reading about your past, I can see how calling you a 'warmonger' would piss you off. It was a kick in the teeth back then, and still is today. No one WANTED to do the dirty work, but some sacked up and did it. You my friend managed to make it back. I know you have had friends from back then that didn't.

You have my ultimate respect.

I spent 12 years active duty USMC....I've been out a little over 4 years, and I can honestly say for the most part that people suck.....especially the ones that have never had to put their life on the line for others. I miss the 'camaraderie' that belonging to 'one of the finest' had given me....and of course, you have that same feeling as well.

I don't know what went on in the other post, and I'm not about to go digging for it....but you need to be the bigger man here. I stay out of political posts over where I admin at and for the most part its a good thing. Leaving over this isn't the end all, but overall there are some people here that don't want you to leave over it. I just hope you'd think this over a little bit.

Straight up - political/religious posts on the internet just don't work.....

Sorry to see you go, John. I don't know you personally either, but have enjoyed your contributions to the discussions on here. Hopefully you'll reconsider. If not, all the best to ya.

Blacdout96 03-19-2008 10:15 PM

Well thats why you should of stuck to automotive posts if you were looking to help out the younger generation instead of fighting every political thread, if it was getting to ya, just walk away, which should of never been started in the first place in this kind of site like i said before. but looks like its too late now to stop this mods. You seen how many times it got outta hand and you guys did nothing to prevent it, now the consequenses have hit, and theres nothign more to do now then lock any political threads that come up IMO.

Knipps 03-19-2008 10:29 PM

I know, i won't concede.. be the bigger man, i'll just speak up some more and be a bigger ass :banghead:

Mike 03-19-2008 10:48 PM

wtg little moty........

this is why i sent an im to all the mods BEGGGING them to lock the political threads the second they saw them....

no thread on the internet will change someones personal beliefs, and now personal beliefs that should have nothing to do with the hobby have made one of the few PROFESIONAL perfomance guys want to leave the site.......

way to ****ing go

unstable bob gable 03-19-2008 10:59 PM

Hey John, do what ya gotta do, but you will always have my thanks and respect for who you are and what you did. I never saw combat as a vet, but we will always have each others backs! And if you decide to stay, I'd like to hear about your road racing experiences.
Peace,
ubg

BonzoHansen 03-19-2008 11:02 PM

I agree. I gave up on political threads here when I got called names after daring to point out something one ‘side’ did, despite my claim of no party affiliation (registered independent). Then I remembered something I was once told – you can’t argue with a zealot - a fanatical partisan. And we have people on both sides of the aisle here.

Blaming the mods is easy. The mods always get ragged for locking stuff, and get ragged for not locking stuff, and get ragged for too many rules, and get ragged for not enough rules, oft by the same folks. The subtle hypocrisy can make it hard to get a sense of things sometimes. So as a group we discuss things like this, instead of making rash decisions. I was for killing political threads because they never end well – zealots are impolite arguers. But we eventually decided to "see if they can behave without resorting to childish behavior". We now see how that came out, given 20/20 hindsight.

How about this - going forward, we allow political threads as long as they remain civil, because we still feel there are some people here who act like adults. But if anyone resorts to name calling or personal attacks, the thread gets locked ASAP and the offenders earn a vacation w/o a warning. And by offenders I mean the initial instigator and any secondary responders. You don’t have to ‘fight back’. Instead of getting your panties in a left or right handed twist, just use the report post button and let the mods deal with it.

What do you think of that?

I think Paul should teach us how to use the report post button :)

Paul is the king or post reporting and a great asset to the club. More people should use that venue to voice their opinion.
