Ttop Leak
Just wondering if there is any fix to leaking ttops other than new weatherstripping. The weather stripping that is on there is in good shape and there are no rips or anything and its not cracked. Thought maybe there might be a way to adjust something.
|
you can adjust the t-tops to fit more snug, you can lubricate the weather stripping with something like vaseline, as it will make the seals swell a tad, I think GM has some stuff they recommend for doing that...
I had at one point thought about using dum-dum in certain problem areas, but that would make a mess when it came time to replace the weather stripping. |
Good luck with that. Once it starts it never stops lol

Is there enough done to your car that you may have tweaked the chassis a little? If thats the case, good luck.

I have had 3 old fbody TTops and all three I was never able to get them to stop once it started. What I found to work for a time was to replace the weather stripping with ones that were larger then stock that I found in a junkyard and made them work. Thats was old shade tree stuff in my young days

i keep a towel in the car. i tried using butyl tape but it started drainin in a different spot. i gotta figure something out. this week has been killer with little rain here and there.

In my old 3rd gen new GM weather stripping & adjusting the top latches did the trick. I hear the aftermarket wetherstipping is no good.

Re: T-Tops Leaking
Had the same type of issue on my 1985 Trans Am. Depending on your year Trans Am, GM has modified the T-Top Weatherstrip, called Second Design, which will resolve the issue. As long as the weatherstrip in good on the T-Top itself.
To have this done is not cheap. They are still avaiable from GM. Right now, there is no one in the NJ area that will touch T-Tops anymore. I have called alot of places, all say noto T-Tops !! One place recommended a place in Bristol PA that handles T-Tops Exclusively: http://www.eastcoastt-top.com/index.html After speaking with him, he is very knowledgable on T-Tops and has all parts available that you will need. With any specialty shop, the price is going to be high. My Tops do not leak, but the Center Bar is becoming loose and I hear the wind with the T-Tops on the highway. I plan on bring him the car to resolve these issues. Price Quoted was around $1100.00. New GM Weartherstripping, Center Bar, Replace any worn Parts on T-Top Itself, adjust/realign Tops, Water /Wind Test ect. They need the car for 2 days, they repair, replace and test prior to any car leaving the facilty, and is guaranteed Hope this helps you out |
