3rd geners with drop kits
Any one install a 2" drop kit on your thirdgen? Im getting some form a member on thirdgen sometime next week so i was wondering how they will look on a thirdgen.

What dropkit? Just springs, or shocks/struts too?

2" Dropzone springs and KYB springs and struts.

Thats ALOT of drop, sure you want to go that low? You might be tucking tire too. Lowering isn't just slap some springs and drive. Its a very intricate process. I've never heard of dropzone lowering springs, and I wouldn't trust a no-name brand spring, with a random pair of shocks. All of these things have to be properly matched or you will get one poor ride.
I've lowered my car on 3 separate occasions, finally settling on Coil Overs up front, and I currently have a little more then a 2" drop up front to the point where I can barely stick a finger in between my fender and tire. I have the QA1's shock settings at the stiffest ride setting so they don't bottom out when I hit bumps going down the road. The car grips the ground like Velcro but its an unbelievably rough ride. I don't daily drive this car, but I could only imagine the nightmare it would be to drive regularly on the roads of NJ. You have to be very aware while driving watching for giant holes, objects in the road, curbs, speed bumps, all sorts of things and because you could have something damage your oil pan and its game over. |
Didnt think about all that. A member off thirdgen.org is selling the whole setup he had on his thiridgen camaro. I looked up dropzone and their ok little on the cheap side but I figure ill give it a shot and if i dont like it ill get coil overs. Just something in the mean time, I want it to be as low as possible without tucking the tires too.

I would just stick to the major brands like Edlebrock, Eibach, DMS, Strano, BMR, Hotchkis, Intrax, Granatelli or even Hypercoils (if you can find them). They all provide ample drops that will actually do something to your ride performance, and improve the visual aspect as well. A good shock I've ran in the rear & fronts were Bilstien valved shocks. |
Im running an Eibach 1" drop with KYB's all around. With the 4th gen Loud Mouth I have to watch where I drive. I also scrape the air dam on just about everything. My car hooks like its on rails but its pretty damn low. I cant pull up to any parking spot with a parking curb because my GFX will hit and Ill stick out a tad too far. I couldnt imagine a 2" drop. I couldnt do over 25 MPH on the roads here in NJ with a drop like that.
On a side note, with the KYB's and Ei's the cars ride isnt bad at all. Its a little stiff but not bad at all. Id drive this car cross country as is and be pretty comfy. |
Wow now im second guessing this drop but im too hard headed not to do it now. Ill let you guys know how it turns out in a few weeks when I get time to install them. Any one wanna help out for some beer?

If you decide you want to go with a coilover setup shoot me a PM. I'm a distributor for Spohn and they offer a very nice setup.
