Independant rear conversion?

Anyone know of anyone doing this? Probably off an old vette? This would be something I'd be very willing to invest some money into doing if it's just a matter of some parts interchanges and welding.

Wayne Due has been known to do it for first and second gens. I would say it would cost anywhere from $1500-2000 to get it done, given you do a lot of the work yourself.

I would only ever consider doing this for the "coolness factor", at least for my first gen. I don't like the wheel hop issues that come along with an IRS (or at least the C3 and C4 vette ones, which are the most affordable from what I remember but also the poorest design).

For a 3rd or 4th gen the most common IRS's that are available are ones from C4's. I had a whole write up with pictures on my computer but now I can't find it. You better know a really good fabricator.

There is one in the latest GMHT, I think. You best have a reason better then bling for the time & $$ of it all. Not a bolt in.

Bill, Wayne Due is out of the business now.

No ****. Lack of business or what?

As I understand it, the town forced him out over zoning issues, so he went back to the family business (a vinyard, i beleive)

Could a modern GTO rear be fabricated to fit?

lol, true, it would be a 2 seater too. sad part is i have it all worked out, where to source parts from and all. everything would remian GM. One day ill build it. Im just mainly concerned about the weight distribution issue. but an aluminum ls1 should fix that.

That is called a Watts linkage. Used instead of a panhard rod, and is considered to be better since the 2 rods follow the axle's vertical motion better.
