Work that needs to be done
Ok my car has been acting up so i dropped it off at my mechanic that has done a lot of work for me. He actually had the car a little more then a week ago putting in the gears, new trans mounts, and new oil pump which set me back about 1500. Well over the weekend after i had gotten back it starting acting off so i dropped it off to him on weds. He calls me today to tell me that the front ABS center is going, the engine is throwing a bad distributor code, and that i need a tune up. This all sounds right, my abs light came on once and my passenger front rotor is all scratched to hell and all the other ones look good, my engine has been sounding crappy and running pretty rough. He wants $2900 to replace the ABS sensor and tells me that he can only get the whole sensor and hub new for $519 they don't just sell the sensor, a new distro cap is $580 and 9.5hrs of labor, and then there is a the whole engine tune up. I really dont have that kind of cash right now, but if thats what its goin to take then its what I'm goin to pay, but i dont want to get bent over becuz im a kid and love my car.
I just want to know if the price is in the right ball park you know |
Tell them to not do the work, bring it back, and you do it.
New hub and sensor is like $135.00 online I believe and only 4 bolts hold it to the spindle. Just need to remove the tire, caliper and rotors. New opti is easy enough to replace. Alex, 86formula and a few others have done them recently so they know what the pricing is for a decent one. |
Dont pay that Crackbaby another cent , hes screwing you hard...... any number of these guys on here can help or give you a write up on both of those.
edit.... a whole engine tune-up...... how many miles ago did you do plugs and wires? This guy is milking you ... I think you should talk to Josh @ JS if you cant do this stuff.. he wont bend you over and take you like a virgin prom queen. |

9.5 hours of labor for an opti? and hes a mechanic for a living? lmao. i do them in about an hour start to finish. the moment he told you 580 for an opti is when i would stop believing him. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
hello $310. tell him if he didnt lie to you then you wouldve brought your car to him... then take it to Josh where you wont get lied to. or do it yourself |
I'm with those guys.....9.5 hours sounds high even for book time to swap an opti, and he's charging you a crazy markup on parts.

yeah thats what i figured guys thanks

1-2 hours for an Opti. Get it off the ground high enough and make sure you have a good balancer puller and the tools and you'll have it off in no time. 9.5hrs is ridiculous.
