New Ride! (with only two wheels ;) )

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...0508081255.jpg

its a one jake-powered 21-speed Diamondback! its used and has a speedo, lights on front and rear, lightweight road wheels and tires, aftermarket seat, and a cup holder! best of all, I got it for free! i figure this will really take some weight off my car starter and gas expenditures because I do alot of short trips in my car; also i get alot of parking tickets on campus from being not wanting to park on a different campus and take a bus. this allows me to navigate between campuses easier and faster! i think last semester alone i paid more than $100 in parking tickets during finals week. needless to say, I'm excited. i'm gonna take it off some sweet jumps!

LUCKY!!!

around 30ish. you know that saying you never forget how to ride a bike? well, i didn't forget to ride but i'm still a little shaky on it. i have seen low 30s in it going down a slight incline. no top speed runs just yet

Ian 05-08-2008 05:15 PM

do they even make bike helmets that fit your gigantic head?

sweetbmxrider 05-08-2008 05:22 PM

going down a slight incline? like a decline? 30's is pretty fast...that speedo calibrated correctly? i've done 31 on my fixed gear on flat road, but thats so light and designed to haul f in ass!

Kojak 05-08-2008 05:23 PM

How many chicks can you fit on that hog?

I can keep up with cars doing 25 mph for a bit on my 30 year old 10 speed down the shore . And while I'm skinny, I'm not in the best of shape. 31 doesn't seem that crazy.

sweetbmxrider 05-08-2008 07:14 PM

it does with straight bars and shocks. maybe a good tail wind. i love flyin past people lookin for beach parking. i just wish i had brakes....fixed gears ftw!

Jersyboyy 05-08-2008 07:15 PM

Road racing bikers do an excess of 30 for a pretty great distance in some cases. Lance Armstrong? Different bikes made for different things, bmx bikes for taking a bashing, mountain bikes have suspensions built to handle rough terrain and road bike's depending on gearing are made for speed. just like cars. You have jacked up jeeps, ricers who think their fast and us who are :)

sweetbmxrider 05-08-2008 07:18 PM

i dono maybe i'm lookin at it wrong but that thing doesn't seem like it would haul. downhill ya but not flat out on flat. well maybe for a quick sprint...

Jersyboyy 05-08-2008 07:21 PM

Throw a moped motor on it with some nitrous and it just might haul! :)

Yeah, 31 seems pretty fast for a newbie on a suspension mountain bike. I can do upper 20's for a short while on a downhill with my Schwinn Hardrock Sport, but that gets pretty shaky and it's not worth the risk. I almost nailed a deer at 25-30 one day that jumped out of nowhere and lost it's footing on the road right in front of me. That would've been worse than hitting a car!

SamhainZ28 05-08-2008 10:04 PM

Take it off any sweet jumps?

Knipps 05-08-2008 10:44 PM

Sweet deal dude. I'd ride my bike more but my trips are usually a little further than I'd like to go under my own power.
(and Mahwah has a TON of ridiculous hills)

ive done in the 60s on my 8inch travel downhill bike....then again that was down the side of mt snow...

i did manage to get it into the 20s on flat land today with moderate pedaling so i can't imagine low 30s downhill being so outlandish. maybe its cause i'm a heavy guy and i have alot of momentum

thats gonna be the best thing you ever got at Rutgers. I had mine when I lived on Cook, and it definitely helped my parking tickets, and you'll never have to wait for a bus again.

qwikz28 05-12-2008 09:55 PM

its too bad i only have one semester there.... :(

SteveR 05-13-2008 11:29 AM

21 speed?!!! was it made by Peterbuilt?
