exhaust help..

ok so the stock style flowmaster system on my iroc is shot...it was a hack job to begin with. anyways, i want a nice exhaust and im looking at GMMG or Borla. They both sound amazing and im stuck on which one to get. I like the GMMG cause its unique and has its own sound. while i like the borla because its adjustable and i wont have to worry if its too loud cause i can change that. Anyone have any input?

you should give my buddy Rodney a call, I'll PM you the number...he did an awesome exhaust for me. nice and quiet at low rpm/ cruising but it sounds nice when you get on it

i would do the borla if you are worried about being loud. if not i would do a gmmg. aren't those real pricey? if you can afford it, go for it!

Go see Anthony at Mufflex

im not worried about loud personally, its the cops and inspection that is worried about it. and the only problem with taking it somewhere is the car has no exhaust on it now, just open headers so its really loud.

Borla!

IF you can afford borla go with that. Its a nice loud rumble and when you ride its nice and deep. I have it on my 85 T/A. http://thumbs.streetfire.net/093fcae...6b20fffa7c.jpg1985 Trans AM borla exhuast

sounds good, i heard the borla has some interior drone while cruisin? obviously its going to be louder, but compared to lets say a flowmaster? I dunno, due to some financial limits i dont think ill be able to get it, so im looking at the Magnaflow kit. the third gen one wont be around for a few months, so how different is the 4th gen one? what exactly has to be done to be put on a third gen? btw i dont have a stock cat, its aftermarket with standard 2.5 out. Thanks

Get the Magnaflow for the early single cat LT1 cars. It will fit a 3rd gen with minimal modification.

yeah i was looking at that one, i knew the lt1 style exhausts are the closest matched, the hangers are different ?, or, what is different if anyone knows?

sweetbmxrider 05-18-2008 10:45 PM

i think just where the i-pipe connects to the cat. its somewhat different but can be easily made to work. i believe the hanger for the over-axle pipe is different but again, can be made to work. a local parts store will help with getting you the correct hanger.

Tru2Chevy 05-18-2008 10:48 PM

Yea, there are a few small hanger differences and you'll need the S pipe to connect the I pipe to your cat.

yeah thinking about it, the driverside hanger is different too. but its all easily altered to work with what you are doing.

Iroc-z86 05-19-2008 07:53 PM

im not too worried about the hangers, i really dont have any stock ones left anyways lol. i just need that s pipe, or would an elbow piece work? Im about 95% sure im getting this due to money situations and my friend has a lift so we can easily weld this together

sweetbmxrider 05-19-2008 08:12 PM

if your old system has piping to the i-pipe, you should be fine. might need an adapter but other then that, you can make it work. slp sells the loudmouth without the s pipe, because the 96-97 and 95 vert cali cars had dual cats so they sell the s pipe separate for the 93-95's. http://www.slponline.com/img/part_img/30045-1.jpg
not sure how any of this pertains to magnaflow but its what i know...slp carries a few different s pipes for the 3rd gens, see what is good for you here

ok so i broke down and got the magnaflow...should be in tomorrow and maybe have it on the car this weekend. ill post a vid when i get it on. thanks for the help guys
