Sweet new finds.

Some of you know my father and I own a 73 Challenger that we plan on building up some more and racing next year. Well since the Chevelle isnt going to Ocean City, I wanted to clean that up and make it road worthy for this weekend. Flip back three years now when we bought this car we were told it WAS a race car at some point, and it was an original 318 car now with a 440 a built trans, and some other goodies. Well we get it home, it got the *correct* front cradle swap to install the big block, and it was at a great price to bring home. I could tell that as the car sat it wasnt going to run the low 11s that the previous owner claimed but it was besides the point, it was a good mopar at a good deal. So two years ago with some unfortunate family issues the car sat until this week. Tossed a battery in her and fired her up, steam cleaned the interior to get rid of the cat smell since our barn cats made a home in it last winter. The car has some OLD air shocks in it which sagged bad, and I found the valve to fill it, but needed to relocate it. I found what looked like a drain plug in the trunk which would work perfect because its not important and since the shocks are coming off next year I dont want to use a spot in the trunk pan. Come to find out, this hole was an Old hole for the roll cage the car had. Checked the frame and sure enough it goes right to the frame, and there is a hole on the other side in the same spot. Someone installed a gross "custom" trunk set that covered the deck lid on the bottom, so that came off. Underneath it was lined with atleast 20 different performance part companies stickers. So that kinda made me believe a little more that the car was possibly raced. While checking the fluids tonight I pushed some wires out of the way *its a wiring nightmare* and found the linelock setup that the thing had at one point, connected a positive to it and it actually still works! So I want to do some research on the car and find out if I can figure out whose it was and what the car ran at some point. Im going to get the title from my father and see what I can do as for researching it, but it was just a pretty cool find to reveal an old race car.

Ehhhhhh, you and Bob have too many cars! You need to sell me that
Challenger so I can make it a big block T/A Challenger clone. Then I'll just need a Z-28 Camaro clone, and a Boss 302 Mustystang clone, and I can have my own Trans Am race series!

Nice! You can try finding the history of the car by finding out where it was owned/registered when it was raced, and call up all the tracks that would have been around that address. Maybe someone there would remember it. Also, if the car had a name, try googling that. And if you find out what track it was raced at, try finding old pics from the track, that might work too.

As long as you let me race one of those things, hell, maybe I could call up a super secret former trans am racer to take one around a few laps ;)
