Best way to get paint off plastic parts?
I have most of the gfx that i'm planning on putting on my car and wanna start prepping them for paint, anyone know of an easy way to clean the old paint off?
-Other than sanding? :p |
Yes. Chemical paint stripper.
Go to the Napa on Rt 12 in Flemington, ask them for chemical stripper there. It will come in a metal can with a white and grey label. It's a brownish-yellow gel and works great, especially in this heat. Just make sure to ask them if it's safe for use on whatever material the GFX are made of (fiberglass, ABS, etc.) |
Yea i was just about to ask if its safe to use on plastic, i was afraid most paint strippers would be too harsh and eat through the plastic.

Personally I don't like using chemical stripper on plastic. Even if it doesn't visibly damage the panel it can seep into the pores and then eventually "ooze" back out under your new paint and make it bubble from the inside out. If you use a chemical stripper be sure to thoroughly rinse the parts numerous times afterwards.

Not sure if those strippers are acidic or basic....if the ingredients seems to be some sort of acid maybe use some baking soda when you wash it to help neutralize the acid.

ok, thanks for the help!
