I just used a drift and went around the gear tapping it till it was flush. Was going to use a big socket but all my tools are locked up at work. Its getting closer and closer to being done though.

you really want to hit it even all around at once.

Piece of pipe and wood? Something ... be creative .. :)

i heat them up and they just slide on no hammer needed

I have a peice of 3" PVC that is about 6" long witha cap on the one end ( end you hit hammer ).

Heat the gear with a torch for 2-3 minutes, HOLD WITH PLIERS! slide it on the crank and 1-2 taps it will seat.

Just like the crank hub, you don't want to be using heavy blows to make parts fit.
