'86 Tojan Firebird

I just saw one of these go for over $10k on Mecum last night. And they get so much hate on the thirdgen forums!

Yea, there is a guy here with one, but he rarely posts.

I'd rather have a DeTomaso Pantera then the Tojan. Same look, better car.

If you don't like the look of a stock car, and just HAVE to put a body kit on it, get one that looks nice. I don't like the Tojans - I really like the 3rd gens the way they are.

Get a car that looks nice with the kit:

That's pretty much what Pontiac was trying to do... figure out how to make a supercar-looking sports car, so they emulated the Pantera and Countach.

Considering when it was built, it really is a TASTEFULLY done conversion. Yeah, it might look like a large FIERO, but when you look at what they were trying to copy, I think they did a hellva good job. These cars were sold at Whelan Pontiac in Freehold and when they came out, it caused quite a stir, most of it good
. Looking at the Red Tojan in the picture, except for the wheels, it really is a head turner either good or bad! I would like to own it.

The car in the pic you quoted is a DeTomaso Pantera, which wasn't a conversion...

How much can a nice Pantera be had for? That is just a gorgeous car all around.

WildBillyT 06-25-2008 09:24 AM

Depending on year and modifications, I'd guess from $50-80k.

Yeah, but he said "nice". You can get one in OK condition for less, as your link proves.

CaysE 06-25-2008 02:32 PM

LOL wow is the one in the link a base model? Looks far different from the one pictured above.
