New Best Tonight in the Bird

Well the G8 didn't get tuned in time for today so decided to throw on the stock wheels with MT DR's and hit up Atco.

Only got 3 runs before I decided to go home since it was getting late.

Run 1:

2.08 60' - Spun launching at 3k
12.35@118

Run 2:

1.9 60' - Hooked kinda hard but could have launched harder - Poor 10bolt
12.1@119 NEW PERSONAL BEST

Run 3:

2.1 60' - Spun Bad- think the car ahead dragged water.
12.5@116

I was hoping for 11's and could have got there with a little better launching. Next time I go, the Nano kit is going in and should be good for 11's all day. This car is fat but happy. It held up well and nothing broke so it was a good night.

thats some sweet lt1 times. i gotta mod my motor some. little top end work should loosen the tires up some.

i dont see how with 119 mph trap speed you are "hoping" for 11s.

thats easily a VERY low 11 second mph.

do you have any suspension mods? and what size are the drag radials?

Blackbirdws6 06-25-2008 08:53 AM

Well the car is a fully optioned vert and with me in the car...it's not light. I know the MPH is good for 11's but I'm still working on the launch. I am running 255/50/16 MT DR's on a stock suspension. It's going to be all in the 60' to how far into the 11's I go. BTW, the 1.9 60' was more like a 1.94 or something, gotta check the slip again.

Was this on the 100 shot? Def an 11 second car though, only problem is that 10 bolt, gotta take it easy on the launches.

WildBillyT 06-25-2008 09:40 AM

Wow, that's great! Do you still have the stock rear suspension parts?? Those things can easily kill your launch.

Blackbirdws6 06-25-2008 11:23 AM

The entire rear suspension is stock except for a panhard bar and yes this was on the 100 shot. It runs very rich which I know slows me down a touch but I'd rather it be on the fat side considering I'm prob at the limits of the stock shortblock.

The 10-bolt, among other things, will be a huge limiting factor but until it goes, I'm not going to buy a $2k rear just yet. The second launch hooked decently and it was good I didn't hit the spray immediately because I think it would have been too much for the rear. Luckily it held together and no bad sounds on the way home.

The car is extremely sensitive to bottle pressure and I found being at 1050psi was the sweet spot. Unfortunately, after the second run I left the bottle warmer on and when I remembered, the pressure was over 1200 YIKES! I had to purge the hell out of it to get the pressure back down. I probably wasted a whole bunch of nitrous doing that. Oh well.

I didn't know until last minute and even at that I was concerned about the weather. I'll be in charge of the heads up next time !

Fantastic power from a Vert LT-1. Must really feel good to have all that power running smooth. Just looking back, you have to look at the 1989 Turbo Trans Am and what we were doing in a 6 cylinder. My best run was 12:18 @ 115 mph with shaved Gatorback tires. No slicks or NOS. With slicks and a dump tube, there were Turbo T/A's running 11:8 @ 118 mph! Wish I had kept my T/A, but that's another story. If GM had kept on working on that combo, who knows what kind of numbers that motor could produce today.

Congrats!

If you post up those numbers in the Timeslip section then below your user name it will say 12 second club and hopefully soon 11 second club. Click on link and on the bottom left it says Submit your timeslip data.

Oh one last thing....kinda funny but dumb on my part. In my haste to get the car ready in a rush after work, I totally forgot to remove the spare and jack. Whoops...oh well.
