New Headers

So, Just got done with the LT install. Here's a little clip. 1 7/8 LT, ORY, No muffler.

Sound clip

One thing I didn't like is how the #3 and #5 plug wires rested on the primary.

Yikes, that def looks like it can be an issue down the road. What brand? Sounds great btw

7pointoh 06-29-2008 06:27 PM

Thanks. They are Hooker Super Comps. Anyone know if the L92 heads spark plug placement different than LS1 style heads? Or does the MSD wires have a longer boot than the OEM stuff? Sorry, just trying to brainstorm on trying to remedy this.

Remove the metal sleeve and use a 45 degree angle plug boot!

Sounds nasty! Good job!

Ditch the stock heat shields. If you really want someting on there get the Taylor "Space Age" boot protectors.

I had the same problem with two boots hitting the headers, I used the space age boots and ditched the factory heat sheild on those too boots and problem solved.

annnnnnd why is it not turbo'd anymore :?::?::?::?::?::?::?::?::!:

LTb1ow 06-30-2008 03:47 PM

I think he blew the LS1 up.

7pointoh 06-30-2008 05:15 PM

Yup. Spun the number 7 connecting rod. Put two holes on both sides of the block. Replaced the longblock and the turbo is now too small for the displacement. 9.4:1 SCR. Saving up to boost it again!!!

I also went to NAPA and got a two pairs of their last two Heat wraps which looks like the Taylor Space Age stuff. Put two of them on the two problematic plug wires. And will be going to use the other pair for the knock sensor connectors ( had to put the knock sensors on the side of the block since there are no provisions for them in the valley). BTW, the MSD plug wires come with a 45 degree bend.

Thanks again for all your suggestions.

NJ346 06-30-2008 05:39 PM

I have the hooker super comps on my car and didn't have this problem but I'm running on stock heads. One thing I noticed was that the end of the msd boot flexes and I was able to bend it far away from the headers.

LTb1ow 06-30-2008 06:17 PM

Did you sell the old turbo?

7pointoh 06-30-2008 07:16 PM

Nope. I still have it.

LTb1ow 06-30-2008 07:31 PM

What did you old set up look like? Stock manifolds? or complete new hot side?

7pointoh 06-30-2008 07:38 PM

It was the STS base kit. It worked for what I needed. I t had a CARB number on it so it passed CA smog.

LTb1ow 06-30-2008 07:42 PM

How much would you be willing to let it go for? And what kinda boost was it putting out?

7pointoh 06-30-2008 07:53 PM

I never thought about selling it. But if I did, for the whole kit, would probably be around in the 400 range. I was being dumb after I broke the new engine in and tried the kit out with the new displacement. I might have spun the turbo out of tolerance. I wouldn't feel right selling a kit that might be defective. I was being safe and pushed 5lbs.

LTb1ow 06-30-2008 08:20 PM

Well I would be interested in getting a new toy to add to the black hole, maybe rig up a separate oil tank for the turbo since you say it may be defective. But if you wanna sell it, let me know.

lastcall190 07-06-2008 08:59 PM

Not sure if you found a solution but the boot on the MSD wires BENDS, so ditch the metal thingy and bend that sucker. Try it, I had the same issue and all solved. Sounds great btw.
