just arrived home from boston

I went to Boston for the weekend to visit a friend from high school. it was a very spontaneous decision since my camaro is in the shop and the porsche was sold last month, i didn't think i was going to have a car and i was not feeling the china town bus. either way i got the saturn for the weekend and packed and drove up 7am saturday morning. the drive was beautiful, no traffic, very scenic, took only 3 hours, and the trusty old saturn pulled me 26mpg for the whole weekend.

Boston is beautiful. I stayed in Allston by Boston University and everyone there is friendly and the city is rustic and homey. public transportation blows NYC out of the water, but is not as clean and comfortable as DC. food there is excellent and people are far more relaxed then down here. there are many cafes and sit-in restaurants, but no where to go to grab a quick bagel for breakfast. many times i was engaged in conversation with complete strangers and offered unbelievable hospitality. my friend's neighbors (both of whom i have never met before) housed me for the weekend, often times paying for me. i was simply blown away. to conclude, i had a great weekend and i really do look forward to going back. random breaks from the norm and meeting new people ftw.

Boston is a great city. My best friend lives just out side of it in Newton, and every time I go up to visit him we have a blast in the city. I don't know if I'd say public transportation blows NYCs out of the water, but the T is a fun way to get around.

James, Boon, and I went up for a long weekend in April. We stayed just outside the city and drove in everyday. We all enjoyed it as well...not much traffic at all, even during rush hour. I dunno if we saw the same hospitality as you, but the people weren't horrible like NYC. Didn't take mass transit there since we weren't paying for gas...but it looked cleaner from the outside, lol.
