4th of July quoits champs once again!
My brother and I managed to win the Titusville 4th of July quoit tournament for the 2nd year in a row! We've won it 3 out of the last 8 years so people are starting to get mad at us and practicing more. There were 31 teams in the tournament this year but a good number are beginners or kids. It's a fun tradition that gets a little competetive. Usually, the reigning champs don't even make it to the final 4 so we didn't expect to do well and didn't even care. But it turned out we were both locked in pretty well and managed to have several blowout games(1st game was a shutout 11-0). The secret to this game is to make sure you have beer and cigars so you have a good time! Winning cash and bragging rights is a bonus!
Here's a picture of the Trenton style quoits we've been throwing at picnics for years. The hubs are set in the ground 21 feet apart and stick up about 4-5 inches. The idea is to get the quoit to ring around the hub. http://www.quoits.info/versions/harquoits.jpg - |
What the hell is Quoit? I had to google it, isn't that just throwing horseshoes or something?
Congrats on the Victory. |
Horse Shoes FTW!!
But, congrats on your victory! |

I hear its mostly a PA kinda thing....then again, mostly an eastern PA kinda thing, in this general area (Bucks Co, and some Trenton, NJ).
I dunno....I'm down for 'shoes myself... |
me and matt challenge you... but the thing is, first team to finish a 12 pack gets first shot... anytime :)

Horseshoe's are too far apart(45 feet compared to 21 feet in quoits) to be able to play in most yards. They have the tournament behind the old Titusville School on River Drive after the parade stuff is over.
