MPG

Just put gas in my car and I got 27mpg out of my 12 year old, 184k miles LT1. My dads Honda accord gets 29  I wonder if I can beat him on the highway.

Discuss.

ar0ck 07-26-2008 12:48 PM

My parents seem to deny the fact that my 13 year old heads & cam car gets better gas mileage on the highway then my 4cyl S10.

NastyEllEssWon 07-26-2008 01:00 PM

i avg about 25 mpg (24 city and 28 highway). thats with some pretty spirited and liberal driving there. if im conservative on the highway i can come close to 30 mph. but thats what my beretta and ion are for

The truck is an aerodynamic brick compared to the Camaro, not surprising at all. What kinda RPM does the truck turn at 65 or 70? The camaro in sixth (stock gears) is turning about 1500+/- just sipping fuel and doing it in style.

I get around 19ish with 99% of that around town, and some spirited driving. It's also an auto though, and it's seen as high as 22 with no highway.

24-25 on the Highway. Cruise control set at 65-70.
Around town, 16-17.

i really dont want to know what the mustang gets...no evap, no egr, no smog, and me driving....probably 14mpg at best

WayFast84 07-26-2008 02:51 PM

I think my car will get 8-10 mpg city. I CANT wait to find out :)

qwikz28 07-26-2008 03:41 PM

i never take a long enough trip on the highway to get a figure.

LTb1ow 07-26-2008 03:48 PM

I just fill it and don't look at how much it costs and how far it gets me. Its less painful that way. But maybe 10 or 12 mpg city

That wasn't all highway, only about 75%

JL8Jeff 07-26-2008 03:57 PM

My old 93 Z28 with the Powerdyne supercharger would get 26-28 mpg on the highway and that was with the automatic. 6 speed cars should be getting 25-30 mpg on the highway easily, unless they are highly modified.

Is my car just a heavy drinker? How do you guys get such good numbers?

some people are very optimistic with their numbers and rounding. i tend not to believe all of peoples figures when they post. not that anything posted was impossible or untrue, but i noticed it on other forums too that people seem to round up on mpg figures.

filled up > drove 206 miles > fueled up again for a total 7.6 gallons= 206/7.6=27.105

math wins.

I'm anal about that...I keep excel spreadsheets for history of mpg and services ... For example, Camaro tanks have ranged from 18.69 last tank to 22.96 where it was cruising to Chatterbox with no real dicking around.

I had those mpgs when I had a bad maf. Im not quite as koo-koo as you but I do check my mileage every time I put gas in the car.

bubba428 07-26-2008 06:03 PM

I average 24MPG on the highway...aerodynamics FTW

ar0ck 07-26-2008 06:10 PM

I also watch my miles to a tank, as I only fill when I absolutely have to. I keep all my reciets and while I'm waiting for a fill I do the quick math and keep tabs on my spending through my credit card since I only use one gas station.

I have a program on my iPod touch that allows me to track MPG and services for multiple vehicles: http://www.catamount.com/iPhoneApps/MPG.html

Mine is an auto and has never seen more than 5 min of highway at a time.

JL8Jeff 07-26-2008 08:24 PM

I write down the miles every time I get gas. I write down the oil changes, the other mods, brake jobs, tires, rotation, etc. A single "fill up" can give you a misreading if they don't top it off all the way. So writing down every mile and every bit of gas will give a good average. I averaged 17.5 mpg over 45K miles on my old 93 Z28 and I'm averaging almost the same with my 2000 SS with 12K miles so far. My daily drive barely gets up to 50 mph for about 2 minutes so it's easy to see why I don't average better. But my highway trips usually pull down 23-25 mpg with the A4.

heavy_chevy29 07-26-2008 09:20 PM

i get about 14.5mpg highway from my truck. and thats on a good day

Anti_Rice_Guy 07-26-2008 09:22 PM

Psshhh I average 17-18 in my truck with no highway...
