laptop help??
 

my sister just gave me her old laptop its a dell inpiron 600m from 2005 i believe. thing is the hard drive is shot. just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction on what to get. not looking to spend a alot of money on it at all looking for a 120gb. thanks alot

They all look to be about the same. I usually use Western Digital and Seagate, haven't had a problem with them yet. If you go for a smaller drive you could probably get cheaper.

make sure it's all dell compatible, it's not far fetched to say they tweak things so you need to special order it

Yeah thats the one thing with laptops is that if something breaks ie harddrive or goes bad ie battery its almost worth it just to buy a new one with working parts.

My gateway is nearing 3 years old & the battery gave way not too long ago, $115 for a new battery or I can spend $300 more and get a new laptop with a larger monitor, 4x the harddrive space, 2x the memory and pretty much any processor is going to be better than my 1.4ghz celeron.

Unfortunatly broken laptops usually aren't really gifts lol

i put a seagate in my dell inspiron...no problems whatsoever. been using seagates ever since all my western digital drives failed except for 1

I was having trouble with my computer. So I called Richard, the 11 year old next door whose bedroom looks like Mission Control, and asked him to come over.

Richard clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was wrong?

so are these all compatible?? thats the thing i didnt know what to look for.

Any one of those should work. There all basically the same drive, just different brands. Your looking for a drive with an ATA-6 connector and it needs to be the 2.5" form factor. Disc size and speed depends on what you want to do. I would try and stay with a 5400 rpm drive, 4200's are a little slow. Other than that its just drive read/write latency and cache size, most of the ones on that page seem to be pretty close.
