This just made my day...
So Im hoping that I am posting this in the right area. Last night my new carpet came in, so I went out today to finish stripping out the old interior and start putting the new one in. Upon pulling the carpet out, I found that my floor pans have started to rust out and have actually rusted through a little bit. I dont want to just throw the carpet over it and call it a day, Id like to finish this car the correct way. The area really isnt that bad, I would just like to know if anybody knows about how much it would cost for me to have a body shop weld in new floor pans. Both sides will need to be done. Here are some pictures.

I can't give you a price, but welding in new floor pans are easy. If you have access to a MIG welder, just cut out the rust and weld in a new piece.
Take a wire wheel to it and see how bad the rust is. Take the surface rust off and see how much needs to be cut off. Get a piece of metal (16 gauge I believe) and weld it in. Take care of that problem as quickly as you can. I faced the same situation on my car. I was lazy and just did a quick fix. Took off the surface rust, painted over it and tossed the new carpet on. The rust was only about a 1 inch scar. Now, about a year later, a 12 inch scar has formed before I didn't do it right the first time. |
Thanks for the input. I dont have access to a welder and this is something that I would like to know was done correctly. If anybody on here who lives nearby has pretty good welding experience I would gladly pay them. I live in 08690, about 10 minutes outside of Trenton.

You may want to check with DJ's Restoration in Ewing. DJ Restoration I'm not sure if they do smaller jobs like that but it's nearby and worth asking. I think one of the members works there as well.

yea, you wanna have it done right, even if its $. cuz itll only get worse in the future if not addressed properly now.

Thats why I put the rest of the car on hold. I actually un-insured the car because I also need to replace my cat and EGR valve, get 2 new rear tires, and fix this. So since Im a full-time student and a part-time worker, it would be just about time to take the car off the road for winter by the time I get that all fixed anyway. Thankfully thats my second car.

You also have to find out WHERE the water is coming in that started the rust in the first place! :shock:

I know that the rust isnt bad, but I would like to get it taken care of before trying to finnish the car. I think that the water may have came from the t tops. However, when I bought the car the passenger window wasnt working, and it was stuck open about 2 inches, that could explain why the passenger side is much worse than the drivers side.

Man that looks like water getting in and pooling there from your T-tops. I usually only see rusted out floor-pans on T-top cars.
