Anybody else having allergies kick in or sinus problems?

I could feel it in my sinuses all day Monday but yesterday it changed and WHAM, first sinus headache of the year! I couldn't even focus on the computer screen at work! I don't know if it's an allergy or the weather changing so quickly but it sucks! I took some sinus/allergy stuff but it took way too long to help. I was out fishing after work and felt better until I coughed and then I could feel the pressure and pain again. At least I caught a few nice smallmouth(16-1/2" was the biggest) and I was able to forget about the pain for a little while. I don't know how people can function with constant sinus pain or headaches, I was almost worthless at work yesterday afternoon.

It has been bothering me pretty bad as well. The only thing that kind of makes it go away is I take Claritan D 12 hour and about 2 hours later I will take two excedrin if the pain is still there. That will usually knock it out for me.

Yea... about those allergies. I got a Deviated Septum (sp?) from when I broke my nose in my HS years... for those that dont know, its a nasal passage that is "pinched" or "almost shut" ... so with that, ontop of the allergies I have, it can be devistating. I went to an Ear-Nose-Throat doctor a few weeks ago because Ive been having a problem with my throat, she gave me nasal spray as a optional ordeal because my allergies were so bad that day, also recommending a surgery where they re-break your nose to fix the closed passage. So, not reading the side effects of the nasal spray, it says that it can cause a respiratory infection, in which case, I got ONTOP of my allergies for an entire week

You guys might wanna look into a Padee (sp?) ... basically its a teacup looking thing that flushes out your entire nasal passages... so far, its been working great.

working with kids, they sneeze and cough all over me. im taking a lot of vitamin C, keep hand sanitizer near by at all times, and hoping for the best.

Whenever it's time for the seasons to change my allergies are always terrible. They are horrible to begin with but suck the most now. It's amazing how i can feel like i have to sneeze all day some days.

Where the hell can you pick up something like that? I don't think a tea kettle will pour like that, spouts too small? Noah, sure allergies aren't messing with your head more than you think?

Starting to get sick... I was okay till this crapass cold front

firehawk1120 09-22-2008 03:10 AM

yup been F-d up for a week now. I hate the change in seasons. Every spring and fall until I get used to the temperature changes and heat vs. a/c it's miserable. Hence why I'm up at 4 am. can't breathe for poop and I feel like I've been sucking on gritty kitty all night my throat is sore and can't hear out of my left ear nothing I do will pop it, gum, q-tips nothing.

Rich189 09-22-2008 05:34 AM

Yea mine have been pretty bad for a week or so... damn trees jeff you keep hugging them and they kick your ass anyway

If you want instant breathing relief from nasal spray, get Zicam sinus nasal spray. It works like Afrin but without the addiction. It works very quick, within 3 mins. That'll clear up your breathing instantly. Only prob is that it is costly. The stuff helps my mom sleep good at night. Allergy pills only go so far, especially when sleeping at night.

Wait, explain this to me again. I think you mentioned something the last time I posted that.

When I took Afrin, I couldn't get off it because my nasal passages would close if I didn't keep snorting it. This doesn't happen with Zicam. Why is that?

No offense, but you weren't addicted.. you built up a tolerance and just treated it with more product
http://health.howstuffworks.com/question546.htm

when you use lots of decongestants you're bound to get what's a "rebound" congestion

Your nasal passages would clog because your body was creating more mucous to fight the decongestant. While with Zicam your getting Zinc Gluconate which is fairly "natural" & I use that term loosely.

This is the stuff in Afrin
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxymetazoline
Quote:

It causes down-regulation of alpha-2 receptors, and therefore becomes less effective after a few doses. If overused it can cause a "rebound congestion" (rhinitis medicamentosa) where the mucosal surface of the sinuses are damaged due to ischemia (lack of oxygen), become swollen, and therefore become congested after the drug wears off. As a result, a user can develop physiological tolerance to the drug, manifested by prolonged nasal congestion without continued use of the medication.
