edit: off topic chit chat moved to your thread in the intro section.

JerzLT1 10-06-2008 06:30 PM

i use Mobil1 15-50 in my car. gonna switch to a lighter weight for the winter though.

LTb1ow 10-06-2008 08:18 PM

If your engine called for 5W30 then use that oil. The first number is for when the engine is COLD. It quickly goes to the high number when the engine warms up, so especially in the WINTER it is better to use it because it will allow the engine to turn over easier!

WildBillyT 10-06-2008 08:49 PM

How many miles are on your engine? Higher milage engines can develop leaks from synthetic oil due to the smaller molecular structure.

CivicEaterLT1 10-06-2008 08:51 PM

i have a new lt1 engine with about 25k on it. 190 on body but 25 on engine

LTb1ow 10-06-2008 08:51 PM

It will leak from the low oil sensor in the pan.

NJ Torque 10-06-2008 08:56 PM

Use good old dino oil.

LTb1ow 10-06-2008 09:01 PM

When I pulled my top end apart, after 70k of synthetic oil, everything was clean, no gunk or anything. Now that may be the case with regular oil too, but I say synthetic helped.

sweetbmxrider 10-06-2008 09:22 PM

i am all for synthetic. i am a Mobil 1 man.

BlackBADaSS02 10-06-2008 09:31 PM

CivicEaterLT1 10-07-2008 10:13 AM

I run royal purple 5W30 in the TA

mc73nova 10-08-2008 03:52 PM

I would use the weight that is on your oil cap, also I don't know how easy it would be for you to get it or if you care ,but I use Brad Penn oil. It was highly recommended to me from an engine builder I know and even people I race with because I have a high performance engine. My $.02

CivicEaterLT1 10-08-2008 04:37 PM

i gotta look at the cap when i get out of school. im not even sure. shows how much i know haha

LTb1ow 10-08-2008 04:53 PM

Also depends on mileage too, on older motors you may want to think of bumping up to a heavier oil.

Kat 10-08-2008 08:53 PM

I use 20w50. I kinda like seeing 60 psi or so of oil pressure.. Then again, Josh told me to use that sooo I'm going to stick with what the enigne builder said..

Also ifyou race your car a lot, use the heavier weight oil. If its just a DD use whatever is on the cap.

Every engine is different. I use 10/30 or 10/40 in my race engine. There is no need to run a heavier weight for racing purposes. My $.02

if your gonna spend the money on royal purple why not get amsoil?

r0nin89 10-17-2008 08:49 AM

Goto advance, $30 for 5 quarts of any synthetic (including rp) and a mobil 1 filter.
