Wheel Locks Q
Raising vehicle theft/break-ins in my employee parking lot have promoted my to start looking into a good set of wheel locks. Seeing a car up on crates was funny till i thought about seeing my own car on them. Took me forever to save for these rims and I want to not worry about them while in working.
This was really straight forward and an easy order till i realized i have longer wheel studs on my rear. Stock length studs were only grabbing a few threads with my TT2's on there. I went to autozone got a set of Dorman open ended 12mm x 1.5 locks and i went to put them on, but the key itself was not long enough to tighten the lung down. The stud was hitting the back of the key. What are my options here? Does anyone sell a set of locks that are longer/deeper? I would prefer closed ones as they look cleaner. I checked Gorilla locks and didnt see any. Can the studs be cut down a few threads? |
you could probably cut the studs down some but i wouldn't. it would be tough to straighten out the threads again but possible. i don't know that locking lug in particular but you should be able to find one to fit. i'll look around a bit. you could always get reverse threads hahaha that would mess with them!
what did your locking lug look like? these seem very deep but i don't know how long your studs are |
locks suck. throw them out and forget about it.

no thats the best part. throw in some cold rain and a good wind, makes for a great side of the road flat experience.

but, serioulsy, people come in all the time, not knowing where theyre wheel lock is... i've had people bring me wheel locks for god knows what, since the car i'm working on has no locks. |
i am tempted to just buy a bunch of factory wheel keys. i spend like 15-20 minutes going through national disaster interiors looking for a fahqing wheel key! pointless crap you gotta do. we have it spelled out on our work orders to please leave the wheel key. 1 out of 25 people actually do/know what it is.

I don't even have my guys do that anymore. I make the customer go get them. If they ask why, I said I do want to rummage thru your stuff.
|
yeah its a good move if they are around. most people leave their cars at my shop.
