Today's valuable advice: Stop buying ****** cars.

bubba428 10-11-2008 10:38 PM

DUH...kinda hard when I can only afford $800 crappers

NJSPEEDER 10-11-2008 11:10 PM

Sounds like it is time for someone to save up TWO paychecks before he buys his next daily driver. You would be shocked at the radical quality different between 800bucks and 1500. lol

bubba428 10-11-2008 11:31 PM

OR I just put the $3K 3.4 back in the $800 camaro for $450 in parts....

NJSPEEDER 10-11-2008 11:45 PM

DON'T DO IT!!! You'll just end up breaking it. :p lol

$800 x 2 does not = $1500

Epic fail/win right here.

bandit88 10-12-2008 07:26 AM

you can buy something around 1200.00 and it will last.....
both my cars are under 1500.00 cars and i've had the trans am for about five and the cavi for about three
this is the first time in three years the cavi broke and is parked...... she's waiting for her new clutch :)

save up for a decent dd....... and then treat it with some respect ;)

deadtrend1 10-12-2008 08:50 AM

don't drive like an animal, and save up for something decent.

 YES!

NastyEllEssWon 10-12-2008 10:39 AM

i paid 500 bucks for my winter beater 92 Chevy Beretta GT. it has 90k on the body and 40k on a new motor/trans. if your having trouble finding daily drivers let me know...in my spare time i find/flip cars.

the best cars for daily drivers are the mid 90s gm throwaways. you can get them for literally junkyard prices and the 3.1 mpfi (not 3100 sfi) motors run freaking forever.

500 dollar cars arent bad, just dont buy cars LISTED for 500 dollars. try to find a car listed for 1000/1200 obo. negotiating is your best weapon. finding good cars that need small amounts of work is a good way to get cheap/nice vehicles if your mechanically inclined.

bubba428 10-12-2008 11:05 AM

thats what I usually do....thats what i did with my camaro.....i just beat the piss out of it

Frosty 10-12-2008 11:44 AM

94 Chevy Corsica FTW, best $300 I have ever spent...the 3.1 has lasted a while...149K and still going strong.

The only thing it's needed in the 2+yrs I've owned it has been some suspension stuff and a radiator.

GP99GT 10-12-2008 12:05 PM

i bought justin's old lumina for $300....sadly it died just after 200k miles but it was worth it

Yup....the 3.1 ran strong until the timing chain snapped. I drove that car for ~7 years and only really needed a radiator and a crank sensor.

saab is notorious for their weak auto transmissions. it really is one of the few weak links in a saab. get a new trans and it will last you more time. don't junk the car

Savage_Messiah 10-12-2008 04:54 PM

better idea. ill buy the car off you. or trade for the benz. lol

Blacdout96 10-13-2008 08:16 AM

My ranger, and first car I ever got, was for 800 bucks, and I still got it today. besides a manufacturer defect affecting it 13 years later, with a bad seal on top of the trans that allows the trans fluid to come out, and blowing up your trans, the thing runs like a top, It's always been reliable, its how you drive something and how oyu maintain it is according to how long itll last.

SteveR 10-13-2008 10:48 AM

I'm sure you can find a trans somewhere for real cheap for that.

I can't imagine why you would have one of those.....

trashman01 10-15-2008 06:33 PM

best beater i ever had be4 i went out and got a decent car(and a payment to go with it) was my old 92 acclaim, 2.5L I4, 5spd. that thing took a beating, i went thru mud holes, the rivers, and countless smoke shows. best $200 ever btw it even had the orginal clutch in it, at 150K and only 1 headgasket
