Really only needed, and I say that loosely, with a tune for fans coming on a lower temp.

camaroracer1992 10-12-2008 10:12 PM

hmm i dont have any warm up issues with my 160.....

A lower temp stat can be worth a little bit of performance with a complete tune and supporting mods. Mostly it is just to help the car be more consistant.

If your car had issues warming up with a lower temp stat, there is something else going on. The engine is generating the same amount of heat and transfering it into the same coolant no matter what stat is in there. So it should get up to a good 150+ operating temp at the same rate no matter what stat is in there.

I had a 160 stat in my car when it was a daily driver and I could not get good heat out of it during the winter. So I went with a 180 stat and it was much better.

Wheelbarrow.

A TB helps, or even an airfoil. Do your free mods. LCA's in the rear help with launches
