Chrysler 318
Before I get the wtf? its from work, and I had to pull the heads and intake off and now I have a few questions. On the right hand side if your looking at the flywheel, the head bolts were like three different sizes but the other side only had two sizes. Any ideas on that? And then the other question is how are the rockers oiled? They are a shaft mount so I was like wtf is this? Any ideas on this? And btw, if you mix water with oil, you make a lovely whipped cream all over the inside of your engine. Nice thick, goey goop.

maybe it was apart once before and someone lost a bolt?
|
if the shafts are put in upside down ( real easy to do ) when you start it no oil pressure can come from the block via the heads to the shafts and will burn off the top of the push rods if your lucky if not the valves will stay open while its runing ( well for a short time anyway ) -- jz

I made sure to label each shaft per side it came off of, can you shed any more light on how they are supposed to go back on?
|
their is an oil feed hole in the shaft on its bottom so rolling it over is easy it fits eather way BUT their is only one oil feed hole - lookin an older chilton book it might show you its location --

Ok cool, I have the master chrystler manual at work, but just wanted to check it out here first. Although with the problems the engine has now, god knows this wouldn't do it much worse. Also, you know anything about switching the intake gaskets or something so you get less exhasut crossover? I was trying to figure out the water leak and that is a possibility.

you can block off the water transfer from side to side BUT depends how old the motor is it - may not come off choke for 20 mins or so Because their is no heat for the choke and in the dead of winter the carb will ice up hahahahah just like an old airplane - put it back the way it was intended it will work the best - jz

Notch on the back of the rocker shaft is the key. Spent an hour reading the service manual at work and learned a lot of useless knowledge.
|
don't worry, a few beers will clear your head of that crap
|
haha yea well, a 318 is the engine that never dies, so I will see it again. And again.
