Torrent Question
So I downloaded a game via bitlord, but now all I have are a few .rar files, a serial key, and a daemon something. I have always just used it for music files and never for actual games, can anyone help me out? I really need a good step by step.

What is the extension of the largest (size) file? .iso? .img?
FWIW, daemon tools is a program that emulates a CD rom drive, used for "mounting" images, or "CD"s. I'll try to be more vague and use more quotes. The point is, it's like burning the game to a CD, but instead you take the actual file and use daemon tools to read it like a CD... |
Use winrar to extract the rar files. If this is one of those deals where there are eleventybillion rar files then you need to have them all in the same directory. It should output a single iso file, which you will mount using daemon tools (which is a DVD-ROM emulator).

.rar is a compressed file like a zip rite? If it is what I'm thinking of I usually use WinAce to open them.

.zip, .ace, .rar, .tar, and .gz are common ones. |
WinRAR takes care of many of them and IIRC it's free.

I've always used WinRAR. Most of the games i downloaded were .iso files.. DaemonTools is awesome for iso.

Ok I got the daemontool to work kinda, it gives me "error in command line". Whats that mean?
|
There is an error somewhere in your command line
I actually have no idea off hand, I'm at work and I'll have to have a look when I'm back on my home computer. Maybe someone else more familiar with it can chime in? |
Ugh, F this, I have Iso tools or something now, and I think thats only for burning the actual game to a disk correct? And every time I try to open through Daemontools I get that error message. Fook.
|
It's confusing to set up, but once you get it working once it's fool proof... i'll see what I can figure out when I get home. What game?

I THINK THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION IS...YOU SUCK AT THE INTERWEBS
|
Pretty much. Hence me asking for help.

there should also be an .NFO file in there. use wordpad to open it "Open File with..."
there might be a clue or two in that file. most people who put these together work in groups, and there is usually a levelheaded one among them who says, hey, we should include a small step-by-step instruction sheet with this (especially if it goes against the norm). i use MagicIso and MagicDisc to create/mount the CD to a virtual drive. after that, you should get the gam to come up in install mode, so you can install it. then there is usually a file folder included with the package which has a NO-CD executable file in it. copy that into the installation directory, usually something like C:\Program Files\Games\Black and White or something. that will help you run the game without the original CD in the drive. it's not easy, but once you've done it a few times you can usually do it blindfolded. |
Black & White is a good game! maybe i'll start playing that again.. although I tend to get stuck on the same part every time.. damn fireballs
