Cops...What's the front plate law?
After my run in with a deer last week, the car will be going into the body shop on Monday to get a new bumper/grill insert + headlights. My questions is, I plan on telling the body shop to leave the plastic grill off(I like the way you get to see the two wholes in the bumper on the LS1 camaro) so I won't have a spot to mount the license plate until I get the SLP bracket if I decide to go that route. I remember the law stating that the license plate had to be mounted down some way, so if I put in the front window with say those suction cups that have the little clips on the end to mount it up, would I be legal? I figure if I did that though a cop might be able to give me a ticket for obstruction of view or something along those lines? I know theres a few cops on the board so if anyone can give me an idea on how to stay legal but not have the plate on the grill let me know.

not legal i already got a ticket for it. zip tie it till you get your overpriced bracket. or run the risk for a week or two till you get your overpriced bracket. or photocopy it and tape it to the bumper till you get your overpriced bracket.

i got a ticket for it not being mounted in the front...it was in my windshield..you could see all the letters and he gave me a ticket. my friend also got an obstruction of view for his high school tassle hanging on his rear view mirror...

Some have it for years without getting pulled over. |
yeah i went a number of months before i got a ticket. granted the cop gave me that instead of a no turn signal but still. just got a tint ticket. its been almost 4 years.

I'll most likely be ordering the slp bracket because I'm still in highschool and there are always cops in the parking lot when i'm leaving so now they'll have a reason actually stop me so I guess I'll be running a plate in the front. I may just throw it in the window until i get pulled over.

its better than nothing. if you get a ticket, you can go to court with the body shop receipts and they will most likely drop it.

39:3-33: Improper Display/Ficticious Plates. In a nutshell, it must be properly affixed to the front of your vehicle. Can't be in the windshield (It then becomes an obstruction of vision AND improper display, which I got pulled over for in my youth). Find a way to get it mounted properly to the front of the car; you are enough of a target for the traffic guys and gals just by being in high school and driving an F body.

Still wouldn't be legal mounted there. IMO, if you aren't going to put it on the front bumper, then leave it at home. No reason to put it somewhere else and draw an officer's attention to it there.

ah, could be.. it was like 2 years ago?

Keep it in your backseat and if and when you get stopped, explain that you are waiting for the bracket. Or, do as Tim said and pick up some metal and fabricate something yourself.
