Yeah it was like $1.749 here today as well, I think oil went back up today though so the cost of gas might go back up next week depending on how the oil prices go.

haha i was watching the news today, they said gas prices may be getting too low and we need to worry. im not too worried, you, i think these low prices are closer to the "not trying to screw the consumer" price

when i started driving super was 1.06, no one was worried then..why all of a sudden is it an issue? do they feel they arent raping us enough?

exactly. why do you think it takes WEEKS and WEEKS for prices to drop....yet they rise instantly. anyone else notice that when a barrel of oil went up, gas went up within hours? and yet when oil dropped, gas SLOWLY trickled down. why? because the gas thats in the tank at the station - the owner paid $3+ per gallon. so why should he sell it for 1.75 a gallon and lose all that money? pass the screwing on to us. its NOTHING but big oil being greedy and disgusting, as always.

When the price of oil shot up almost overnight, the station owner and gas companies made a killing, because that crude was bought on the cheap. So they stick it to us on both ends.....

And they are really sticking it to diesel guys, why is diesel suddenly $1 more than regular when it was traditionally the cheapest of fuels?

'zactly. but when the prices shot up and he is suddenly selling for $3.50, that gas he paid $1.25 per gallon was looking pretty nice for the station owners.

btw, that is not an example of big oil behind us with our pants at our ankles. that is the station owner, who may be only a franchisee with a 49% interest in the company. i feel sorry for the franchisees in today's market. they are slowly being squeezed out of business. there were two stations that closed in beachwood on route 9. we, as consumers, didn't care, because there is always another station to go to, but those were franchisees who got the shaft so they shut the doors. something to think about when you think about how big oil is slamming it to us; they're also slamming it to the guys who are supposed to be on their side, helping to sell their product.

and, for the last time, the most recent price increase was due to the futures market. no oil embargo, no shortage, but big oil did make out in the long run - you can bet on that.

I believe that happened when they switched to the ultra-low sulfur diesel. Something about extensive further refinement driving up the price. Not sure how much more work it is to produce that over the older diesel fuel.

Don't you worry, as economy goes up gas prices will be right by its side. Unless you think this current economy will drive us right into the stone age, in which case I feel bad for you.

Prius wasnt gunna make its money back anyway. Most owners paid thousands over sticker for them. Its a status symbol.

I noticed soemthing yesterday....
I was coming back from JS's and needed gas asap. So I saw a sign for Wawa...meh, Ill give it a shot. I drive over, its 1.71 for regular!! NICE! But I dont use regular..i see 2.21 for premium. That was a little high IMO. I pull up to the pump, and its 92 octane? WTF is that?
I drove down 195 to the next exit, drove a bit and found a Hess for 2.18 for 93.

And yes, diesel is sooo much more expensive. Even with the low sulfer treatments, it shouldnt be that high at all. I think that Benz CEO is right, diesel in the US is kept this high to keep diesel vehicles off the roads.

as far as i know, its not the individual station owners that set the prices. big oil give them a minimum price they can sell at. if they sell higher, they can pocket the extra. but at setting higher prices, theyll run themselves out of business.

also, anyone with the least bit of sense knows there was never any oil shortage. china didnt use THAT much oil to make the prices skyrocket. it was all just a scam, to see how far they could push the american public. they made such a rediculous amount of money, and thereby drove the entire economy into the dirt, since no one can afford gas to go anywhere or do anything. everything got more expensive, people couldnt afford to run their own businesses. dubya and his big oil cronies proved they couldnt give less of a fyck about the people of this country.

The individual station owners set the prices, but they are rarely more than a few cents per gallon higher than what they are paying for it. So I guess you can say that "big oil" sets the prices to some degree in that way.

Yea I work at a wawa...and needless to say, my car is tuned on 92:(. Back when gas peaked where I work, there was a 36 cent difference between regular and premium. Tonight, my wawa is $1.73 for regular and $2.09 for Premium still a 36 cent difference....talk about F*&^ng the consumer. There should be a 20 cent difference between regular and premium right now and most stations are still 30-40 cents more a gallon for premium, it just doesn't make any sense.

In my case, it was 50 cents more a gallon for 92 over 87.
The Hess I stopped at had it at 1.81 and 93 at 2.18...thats nearly 40 cents difference.

They basically added methanol to it. The one huge downside with ULSD, is that the methanol additive eats away at the rubber and plastics in older fuel systems over time. So you have to redo your entire fuel system to be ULSD compliant. I'm not sure what the cutoff date was, but I know my '87 needs to be redone.

They do sell sulfer additive.
Or you can pick up a Dmax/Allison out of a wrecked 08 2500 Silvy? Or Powerstroke.

It's not the lack of sulfur that kills the fuel system, it's the additional methanol.
