Key stuck in ignition '85 Camaro
So while trying to repair what the last owner screwed up I decided to change the ignition lock cylinder since he broke the key off in it. I successfully got the old one out and installed the new one and now I can turn the key to the run and start position but i can't turn it back to the locked/off position so to remove the key. I am thinking that it has something to do with the shift interlock system, but I don't honestly know how it is operated on the GM columns. Anyone have an idea out there or wish to put in their two cents on this issue?

yeah the trans goes into park. the only thing that may help and i forgot to mention is that the with theshifter i do not need to depress the button to get out of park.
|
i gotta say that's probably got to do with it somehow. i have no experience with 3rd gens so im no help.

this happened to me a few weeks ago in my 94. Did you try driving it after? And shaking the gears (by this I mean shifting from P--->2 really quick with foot on brake). Basically when it happened to me I couldn't get back to off position fully so I did that and drove it around the block then turned it off and it popped right out. Silly Chevy.

if you need a hand with it just let me know. im normally free after 430

nope neither the blazer or the jimmy did this i have taken the columns apart on both for the wiper switch and the jimmy was stolen so i needed to replace the lock cylinder turn signal switch and the bezel that holds both

maybe you have a beat tumbler i had this problem with my third gen all i did was replace the tumbler and everything worked fine after that
