Cavalier anyone?

Just wanted to see how reliable Cavaliers were. I got a friend selling his family's 95 for $800, but it has 150k on it. its in good shape besides minor stuff.. should i bother with it? Is that too many miles? how dependable are they? i know he said he got 32 mpg the last time he drove which is a hell of a lot better than the firebird.

both of my sisters have cavaliers that are running strong... not sure the mileage but i know they got them a few years back used... i have known a couple people that had them that loved them... and they seem pretty reliable

good reliable cars, the only problems with the late 90's is around 150k ish the head gaskets crap out on the 2.2s on the upside, my friend has a 96 sunfire with 199k and still running strong. he uses it everyday to commute to ramapo college.

back when I was still a mechanic I remember seeing quite a few cavaliers with the 2.2 (I believe that was the motor) that had over 200k

Very good cars. Basic maintenance and they will live forever, less than basic maintenance and you will get 200k out of them. lol

Lol another 50k would be good enough for me. so for $850 .. good deal? I'm probably gonna shell out the money and pick it up this week. It's going to be so strange driving a car that gets over 12mpg

NastyEllEssWon 12-03-2008 01:01 AM

id pay 700 for it

tastyle88 12-03-2008 02:06 AM

Scrat's_Camaro 12-03-2008 11:31 AM

i seen some s-10's with the 2.2 last over 300k as long as you take care of them you should be good

Scrat's_Camaro 12-03-2008 11:33 AM

also if the car has that orange dexcool stuff in the rad., drain it out and put in the green stuff thats made for all makes and models. ive read on s-10forum.com that the dexcool crap tends to cause issues with the waterpump seals and ****.

I wanna bargain but he's a friend so i kkinda feel like a dick trying to haggle him.. i dunno why though.. i'm just going to tell him im short on the money and see if he'll drop the price a little. He just put a new alternator, radiator(hoses, etc.) serpentine belt a few months ago. brake pads and such. and new exhaust.

Btw, didnt GM start using dexcool in 96? its got the green stuff in it anyways. And ive heard if you mix the dexcool and the regular stuff it starts to crystalize or something and cake up in your cooling system

for $800 thats a good pick up. with the economic problems, its getting harder to get a decent car under a grand. they are great cars and the gas mileage is awesome.

Yeha thats what im thinking. i also kinda don't mind paying it too much because it's a friend, and i'd like to think i can trust buying a car off him ;)
