one man's garbage

is obviously another mans treasure. I took down an old chain link fence this weekend and put the posts and fence out for garbage today. woke up and someone had taken it before garbage men could. no idea what they plan to do with it but at least its gone from my yard.

this happens all the time over here. i put out halloween decorations and a cheesy lamp both were gone that day. unbelievable the garbage pickers out there

chrisfrom nj 12-04-2008 07:30 AM

they do that all the time near me they tried to steal stuff out my driveway till i saw them and chased them out

ZeroCool8891 12-04-2008 08:54 AM

chris i think he means when he throws stuff out, not just stealing stuff.

mc73nova 12-04-2008 09:01 AM

lol, my parents get that when they put stuff out. they never have to worry about the garbage men not taking it because its gone before they get there!

Slow96LT1 12-04-2008 09:02 AM

i bet the scrap guy came around and took it

its not worth it in scrap, scrap is so low its cheaper not to take it, its like .5 for every 100 or something.

Damn! scraps that low? me and my friend went around on the big pickup days and took all scrap metal.. i kinda felt weird about taking people's garbage.. but then i had a $100 in my pocket :p but that was when scrap was at 7.00/per 100 i believe

HardcoreZ28 12-04-2008 09:17 AM

I'm betting scrap too. I made a run to the scrapyard back in Sept. My parents took down their above ground pool and the entire thing fit in the bed of my pickup. Got just over $400 for it.

ZeroCool8891 12-04-2008 09:29 AM

yea its bad from what i herd from a few sorces is that in march or so it will start to go back up, witch is fine with me i been saving alum, starters, alts and so on. so we shall see what happens.

bibbly 12-04-2008 11:31 AM

U guys are lucky. Where I live garbage is really garbage. With that being said the ppl around here will take ur grandmother if you leave her outside 4 2mins

rscamaro73 12-04-2008 11:47 AM

I had to yell at some people that were ripping my bags open and pulling things out because I had tossed a few old broken toys in there. They started taking pens and markers that I tossed....broken toys....it was disgusting. Then they wanted to argue with me that I threw it out. Not for them to go ripping thru my bags....:!:

Anyways....trash guys were right behind them and then left.

Check out the local 'freecycle' posts....sometimes people just give shiznits away....FREE....

sweetbmxrider 12-04-2008 03:46 PM

if you put it on the curb, it is public property.

craigslist has a free section, usually people post up yard sale items to the curb and crap like that.

GP99GT 12-04-2008 03:48 PM

i work in a rich community...the company that does garbage pickups has a bulk day like once every 2 months...you can find some real good stuff in there, we just ride around in the morning before we actually do any work

Scrap is very worth it. Even at only a few cents a pound, you fill the bed of a pick up truck and you can walk away with a enough for a tank of gas and lunch just by stopping at the curb on your way home.

It's not gonna make you an over night millionaire, but money is money.

At the current price for Steel mc73 is right, it isnt worth the tank of gas unless its your crap already. Going around and scavenging isnt really cost effective now.
I am going to keep some of my crap and wait until prices go back up
