How long in the morning do you wait for your car to warm up before you start driving?

I've timed my stoopid car on cold mornings anywhere from 7 - 12 minutes. The 'Hawk was great, 4 minutes no matter what :lol:

I let mine run for a minute or two before going.
Correct if Im wrong but I heard a rumor that NJ passed or is going to pass a law that no vehicle can be left idleing for more than 3 mins.

Yes, I believe there is but I dont know if I heard someone actually getting a ticket for it. I let mine run for 2 or 3 minutes unless it is below 32* or there is snow/ice on it.

I let mine warm up for almost 20 minutes because the trans gives me **** if the fluid is too cold hahaha...

Yeah the law was instituted either this or last summer. More than 3 min unattended = illegal. My truck idles at like 1500 when it first starts cold (winter, summer doesn't matter) damn Fords. I never timed it but I wait until the revs fall to like 800 rpm or so.

What if it's in your driveway, which is your own property? Still illegal?

I know they made leaving your car idling in front of 7-11 illegal :lol:

Usually around a minute just to make sure the fluids have had a chance to loosen up and flow properly. The Ls1 start around 12-1300 and drops down to 8 or 900 pretty quick. If there is snow or ice to be scraped, then it would be the amount of time it takes to clear it off to see. But I keep it in the garage at night so that helps limit the morning warm up.

Mine takes a while to warm up. 10 minutes minimum. Funny how in the summer it takes ten minutes to be way too hot.

08 Colbalt = less than 1 minute before I'm hitting the highway.

67 Camaro = 10 minutes, I baby the car that I care about. :nod:

warm up? what is that? my car warms up until i can see out the windows...

Start car & go, 0 time for warm up although I do drive very slowly for the first minute or two.

My old heads/cam camaro I would just kinda idle along for the first 5 or so minutes and wouldn't go over 2k rpms but that was mainly because of the stiffer springs.

Foff, you don't count. Your commute is from your bed to your keyboard. The only warm up time you get to count is if you scratch before or after you stand up. lol

Two minutes with the camaro but i should probably wait longer cause of the springs. every other car, 15 seconds max

The brakes on my old isuzu used to freeze if it was cold out, so i would let it warm up for about an hour (i would wake up for school, start my car, then go shower, get dressed, eat breakfast and then go) then sit and pump the brakes for about 10 minutes before i could drive it. and by then i still didn't have full braking power, but it could at least stop

I start it up, and go. Ice or not. Its a straight road to work. Saturn can take it.

it has always been illegal to leave a vehicle running unattended. The local cops back in 97/98 used to always bring that up while we hugn out in the main town parking lot, they never ticketd us because they knew it was reatrted and we werent causing trouble.

below 32* i wait until windshield is clear, temp guage is getting close to the 160 mark so that by time i get out of the appartment complex the car is fully warm for me to get onto the interstate. rest of the time the car warms up quick enough ill just wait at least 30 seconds.

Less than 30 seconds. I usually reach in and start the truck while I'm tossing my bag in or putting jack in his seat. They warm up faster when you drive them than they do idling in the driveway....

depends on the temp, and wat precipitation is on the windshield lol, if its warm out, just long enough to find a good song. if its this time of the year maybe 30 secs to let the juices start flowing
