exhaust question

I was looking at a 1997 trans am today and for some reason one side of the exhaust wasn't blowing anything while the other side was, does any one know what would cause this the car itself ran good.

X2. Some Borla systems have a restrictor or blockoff plate included in the kit to "tune" the sound as one side bypasses the muffler on the exhaust.

it is a borla and has bbk mids with a custom Y pipe,I thought it was something to due with the exhause but just wanted to ask as he said he didn't know why.

If it's the Borla it probably has the block off plate put in which forces all the exhaust through the muffler and driver's side tailpipe. No big deal.

Saitin 12-13-2008 04:52 PM

how hard is it to remove the plate?

Mike 12-13-2008 04:56 PM

depends on how rusty the 3 bolts are, but not that hard

I see thanks,so basically the passenger side on is there for show when it is blocked off,I never new that lol

my ss only liked to really blow through one side more than the other for the first 2-3k miles of the magnaflow exhuast.

regardless, the visable exhaust coming out only one side isnt a concern. all f bodies are factory 2-1-2(y-pipe to intermediate pipe to tips) systems(some 2-1-1). Its not a sign of anythign wrong with the car itself, mayeb just a bad muffler if anything.

edit... missed where u confiremed it WAS a borla system. yeah those guys are right about it

NastyEllEssWon 12-14-2008 03:18 AM

remember when i told you i ran my borla ''wide open'' thats what i meant. they come with 3 different plates. one that blocks it off completely...and two with varying degrees of openess to adjust for loudness
