I hate peopel that dont know what they are talking about.
So im cruising youtube, and come across a vid of a Skyline with a LS1 in it, and of course all the nay sayers of the import world come out bashing it, but one person kinda got ot me here's what he said:
This Jerkoff: the LS1 isn't a superior motor - it's old technology. It is a good motor, but definitely not superior. If you believe it is superior, then might be time to do a little research... So I asked : Then what in your mind is a superior motor, what is a non old school motor. the Rotary? yeah, with bad emissions, and no torque, the W-motor? nothing more thenpistons raised and schooched over some more. a turbine car? lets not even go there. In the end, the basics ofmotors show that they are all the same Jerkoff: Not sure what you're babbling on about with re to rotary and the likes. I never mentioned them. Superior would be harnessing new technology not trying to bandage old technology. Great V8 motor is the 1UZFE - read up about that motor, it is *superior* to the LS1. I think you should do a little reading about both motors......... So of course I do, and I find.....NOTHING superior about this motor. ME: So, your saying belt driven cams in a V8, steel connecting rods, and hypereutetic pistons makes this motor superior? The only thing making power in the 4.0 is the compression. The LS1 is 40lbs. lighter, and makes at a MINIMUM 67 more ft. lbs. of torque. So how is this over weight, underpowered, and under litre engine superior, cause the cams are on top? oh yes, driven by a belt, which has to be replaced more then a timing chain. Sorry, but your engine is old technology. Both our motors have 6 bolt mains, are made of aluminum, and are fuel injected....so now, what makes it so superior. OHC and DOHC dates back as far as OHV's, such as Delage Peugeot, ALfa Romeo, and so on. None of this is new technology anymore, things are jsut refined. If you say it's because its DOHC...well im sorry to say it makes not difference, except its more a PITA compared to a single cam... ask me how I know. I just dont understand where these guys come out of the woodworks, and shoot their mouth without reading into it....and they are the ones preaching to do some research. Both our motors have been on the 10 best engine list, only ours was on there 2nd year out, it took Toyota 9 years to get there with the 1UZ ( both were on it in 98') Do they think its some holy motor because its one of the few V8 Japan has produced in a performance car? |

That is a nice passenger car/luxury car engine. For performance it seems pretty pitiful to me. That's barely better than a 5.0 Mustang engine. I don't understand why import guys can't give credit where credit is due. An aluminum 5.7L engine making probably 340hp at the fly that gets 30mpg without any fancy parts like overhead cams, turbos, or whatever. And it's affordable, and installed in thousands of cars. |

Whenever I hear someone say stuff like that, I just stop trying to talk. Its like talking to a wall. I remember one instance, this kid was talking crap on v8's in general. And he's like "oh, for like 2 grand you can turbo a honda, and have 1000 horsepower and still make 25 mpg."
I just walk away from those people, because theres no getting through. They need to see it in person. Most of them would crap their pants seeing a bolt on LS1 running 12s |

Did you all know that GM developed both versions of the LS1? GM reps were allowed to drive both cars not knowing which was which the the push rod version out performed the OHC version.

yeah everyone(on youtube and toyota forums) seems to pop up with the 1uz being the ultimate v8 of all time for some reason. They can take a lot of boost, i know that, but there still only 4 liters. You need big cylinders!! I just think it would have been cool if it came in my old mk3 supra from the factory instead of the underpowered 7m in the oversized mk3

i bet he is referring to the fact that it is a pushrod motor. yes he is an idiot, but he has a point. our cars are lacking the technology that is put into motors such as the the twin turbo BMW motor, or even the stupid GTR motor. Those are all considered "modern" motors. this isn't to say that the LS1 is inferior, but it is far from cutting edge anymore. back in 96-97, it was the ish. the name of the game seems to be how much useless technology you can put into a motor. the solstice motor, for example, wouldn't be considered very technologically advanced compared to the new german and jap motors, but the technology it does have, is very useful. thats why i dont care for high tech motors. sorry for the endless rant, just wanted to say that.
