My friend has an 01 Impala that takes dex cool. I remember there being something about getting reimbursed money or something from repairs. Just don't know exact details or what he should do or call. Someone help me out?

what is leaking on it? i don't think that model is covered under the law suit, only the older gm's. not positive. if you search this site, you will find the dexcool law suit. the link is around.

the cutoff date for the class action lawsuit was october of 07 or 08...not sure but its passed. most likely if he has an impala its either a 3100 or a 3400 both of which had the dreaded lower intake manifold gasket leaks that turns the oil to chocolate milk. but either way, replace it with a felpro set or the gm newer style which is all metal and is more durable

The 2000-2005 Impalas all had either a 3400 or 3800. The new GM gaskets for the 3.4 seem to do the best for keeping the lower intake leak-free.

I think they redesigned the 3.8 gaskets also. They used to be that black plastic junk with rubber seals, now on some models it's a metal plate with rubber seals. There is also a service bulletin on the 3.8's for upper and lower manifold replacement. The EGR tube that connects between the 2 intakes was melting the material of the upper manifold causing coolant leaks. So they tell you to replace both peices.

Here's a page on the recall http://freeautomechanic.blogspot.com...-dex-cool.html
