Yellowed Headlights? I got a fix.
 

My Ram has had yellowed headlights since I bought it and they got to the point where I really could not see anything at night. I figured I would try a store bought bottle of cleaner and if that did not work, I would buy new headlights.

I picked up Blue Magic: Headlight Lens Restorer - from Advance Auto for $4.99. All you do is put some of it on a clean rag, and scrub the headlight in a circular motion. Once you put that coat on and rub pretty hard onto the headlight lens, you take another clean rag and polish up the lens. It actually feels almost like a rubbing compound (but has some other chemicals in it) it has a grainy texture to it.

12 years of the elements and road grime really made my headlights nasty, they started out like this:

I applied the HLS three times and will most likely do a fourth to make them 100%. I took the picture on a cloudy day so you can't really get a good sense for how well they came out, but this is an after shot:

I am going to try the next sunny day we get to put another application on and get some good pictures in the sunlight, these pictures don't really do justice.

I got pretty good results using rubbing compound I had laying around. Not that good though.

hmm gotta try that for my sisters camaro

I used a powerball mini with the mothers plastic polish. Worked well.

rubbing compound and a rag or buffer works well too..looks good!

definitely looks like it works. i'll have to tell my friend to try it.

How do the lights perform at night now? Is it noticible?

Bill, they are like brand new. Visibility went up greatly, definitely noticeable. I have some Silver Star bulbs in there and I can see about as good as I am going to with stock lenses.

Wasn't going to try that until it was a last resort.

We sell a 3M headlight kit that a local dealer always buys 10 at a time from me. They say it works so well with that Blue Magic HLS and have been using it for so long.

MY fix. Had my buddy smoke them out. All around smoked. Backs are DARK. Fronts are a little lighter.

I know it may sound stupid and ticket worthy, but the guy who did them is a cop in my town. So... LOL..... It works out good.

Not attacking you, but I don't understand why everyone wants to make it harder to see and be seen a night.

Driving through the woods at night, I can't have enough light to make sure I don't miss a deer coming out.

I agree. I need to make my tail lights much brighter in the 77. People don't see my brake lights in daylight.

Yeah, but where I live like deadtrend said is in the woods. One deer, pedestrian, etc...I want to see what is in front of me.

yea buffers work great, my friend actually took scratches out of his ipod screen with light compound.

i do them with 800 grit wet paper then 1000 then 2000 then rubing compound and a wax and they come out great
