Paint? Im friends with a guy whos friends with THE guy.
Iv got a guy off exit 74 on the parkway who is a friend of a friend.
His family sold their paint shop a few years back but he still has all the equipment setup in his garage. He gave me a total with materials for the two tone paint job we all discussed in the multimedia section. Prime and paint (I do prep before primer, not much needed since most of the body is now flawless) with clear coat and sealer afterwards. He quoted me 900 for labor and all materials and his words exactly were " It'll look awesome when it's done". Im going to have it done in a month and a few weeks just as the whole car is coming to completion. In 2 weeks tho im taking the car to him to do the engine bay and inner fenders and frame so itll be ready for my new motor. 150 total for that. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e94/pfcfury/red.jpg Gotta say im phyched about this whole project for once. I even got an email form my engine builder who said my new motor should put me in the low 11's NO PROBLEM but ill have to run super with octane booster at all times :) LOL daily driving is going to be ALOT. |
can't wait to see it all together!!
are you going to try and clean the engine bay up some? i have seen threads on ls1tech where guys fill in extra holes and delete this and that and hide wiring and stuff. personally, i would. that extra tid bit makes for the wow factor all around! |
Ok I have to chime in here just to help you out. First of all if that's an exact pic of the color scheme you're going for it's absolutely awesome. Very good way to split the top and bottom without it looking off and the colors are perfect.
However be cautious about this price. If I understand your post correctly he quoted you $900 for paint and labor? I can't even buy paint for under $1,000 for a car, and that's just one color. What brand of paint is he using? And what do you mean by sealer over the clear? There's no such thing as far as I know...atleast not paint wise. Maybe he means some sort of wax? And if so you shouldn't wax fresh paint for 3-6 months after it's done so all solvents work their way out. If his price of $900 is just the labor to do the job and he isn't doing any bodywork, then it's reasonable. Just wanted to give you a heads up so you don't get into a bad situation or get something less than what you're hoping for. |
Octane booster?
Whats your planned CR? |
i cant believe an engine builder recommended octane booster....there's no way to actually know what octane your creating unless you buy 55 gallon drums and mix your own fuel
|
Or run race fuel all the time....
So ask him what your planned CR is... I am curious. Granted you can make some great numbers with like a 14:1 but street manners are out the window..... |

I have never in my life heard of an engine builder calling for octane booster. That just sounds weird. Octane boost doesn't really do much to the gas and if he is saying that you need to run better than typical pump gas to get 11's then there is a problem with the combination.
|
11:1 iv been looking into tuleune
Yes he said paint and labor for 900. My buddy had his mustang resprayed by him and it was good work. and yes the engine bay is pretty much cleaned up man almost no wires no ac no cruise control I just have to get the holes for the a/c/heater blower and stuff welded shut before paint. |

11:1? I hope it has super duper aluminum heads. And no timing. And EFI. That is too much for the street and octane boost is a gimmick.
Car is gonna look cool though. :) |
Love the color combo, that is gonna look killer. Hope to see it at the F Bod show over the summer.
|
11:1 compression is an easy number for pump gas. Can you expand upon the parts being used? Unless there is a serious problem with the heads or some radical new part causing excessive combustion pressures, I can't see any need for race fuel or additives.
The limited description, 11:1 compression and 11second et's, sounds like a good street motor, nothing close that should be close to calling for race gas. |
9.7:1 could get you 475/465 crank.
|
I really dont want to give to much info on the motor. The less people know the better. Pm me and Ill give you the info I have if I like you and trust you.

Now why wouldnt tuluene be a long term solution. Its used in gasoline, many racers in f1 used a high percentage of it in their f1 cars.
Theirs alot of guys running a small percentage of it added to 93 in the high compression stroker motors to give the car the right amount of clean burning octane to keep the motor from detonating/pinging instead of race fuel. Tuluene is an additive in many octane boosters. Its also cheap in 55 gallon drums. Great way to save some cash vs buying 108+ octane. |
Tuluene was used to enhance F1 fuel 20 years ago when better technology wasn't available. Currently, basic 93 octane pump gas has better additives and detergents than any racing fuel had back then.
It is also a matter of the consistency and availability of your fuel of choice. You need to have a repeatable ratio in your fuel in order to get a proper tune up on the car and you don't know how an outside additive is going to react and mix with every detergent and existing additive in every brand of fuel. What are you gonna do if you aren't at your regular gas station by your house and you have to fill up? Hoping for the best is a good way to break parts. As others have stated, 11:1 is a good pump gas ratio, even with your iron heads there should be no issue unless there is something else going on. |

You just going black and red? or are you breaking the colors with pinstriping or something?

Im with hardcore on this one.... both of us being painters that puts up a flag! The way it goes is you do the body work, prime the body work, wet sand, sealer, base, then clear..... and if hes gonna use a sealer wax after he paints slap his face! Never put wax on a newly painted vehicle..... ever! Even after the clear coat is hard it is not fully done curing. What brand paint is he using Sherwin Williams!? I cant get paint that cheap... any where! PS- Thanks for choosing my color scheme :D |

Lol yes yes yes sad thing is even my old motor on all 8 would still be faster and more reliable than a lt1. I was daily driving that car with less problems on 5 cyls! lol lt1s gotta love em, like the retarted younger brother in the basement. Your paint scheme? I think we needs pics, more pics of cars painted like this the better I need some good wallpaper. I meant sealer as in before paint I kinda got it confused since im not a paint guy and he was throwing things at me and I was interpreting them and throwing them up here. |
My 11.5:1 LT1 runs on 93 Pump.
